Sarah Harmer

Sarah Harmer is a multiple award-winning, platinum-selling singer-songwriter and environmental activist. Her album Are You Gone is a collection of deeply personal and political songs motivated by the beauty of life, the urgency of the climate crisis, and questions of loss — a spiritual successor to her acclaimed 2000 debut You Were Here. Beyond music, Harmer is active in environmental advocacy. She co-founded PERL (Protecting Escarpment Rural Land) and led a successful effort to prevent an open-pit gravel mine in a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve on the Niagara Escarpment. In 2022, she helped launch the Reform Gravel Mining Coalition in Ontario to protect water, farmland, and biodiversity. Harmer is currently writing songs for a new album. Geeky Book Club: November Meeting - The Incandescent by Emily Tesh

Geeky Book Club meets monthly to discuss fantasy and science fiction novels. The group alternates genres month to month, with book selections chosen by member vote. New members receive voting links after attending their first meeting. This month's discussion focuses on *The Incandescent* by Emily Tesh. The novel offers a dark academia story from a teacher's perspective: Doctor Walden directs magic at Chetwood Academy and teaches A-Level Invocation to four sixth formers while managing the school's magical boundaries and protecting its six hundred students. As one of England's most powerful magicians, Walden excels at her role—but demons are skilled manipulators, and the greatest threat to the school may be Walden herself. Unlike book clubs where attendees haven't finished the book or skip discussion, Geeky Book Club keeps the focus squarely on the month's novel. Facilitators provide discussion questions to guide conversation, and members are encouraged to share their own thoughts and insights. All are welcome—whether lifelong readers, returning after a break, or new to reading altogether.
