The Other Mozart – The forgotten story of Mozart’s genius sister

The forgotten story of Mozart’s genius sister. The Other Mozart is an award-winning, Drama Desk nominated play telling the true, forgotten story of Nannerl Mozart, the genius sister of Amadeus, who performed throughout Europe alongside him to equal acclaim, but her work and her story faded away, lost to history. Set in a stunning 18-foot dress, inspired by the Mozart family’s hilarious and heartbreaking letters, this award-winning production by playwright Sylvia Milo ushers you into a world of opulence and delight – obscured by restriction and prejudice. Music score by Nathan Davis and Phyllis Chen (Lincoln Center’s Mostly Mozart Festival) brings Nannerl’s musical imagination to life using clavichords, music boxes, teacups and fluttering fans. With the opulent beauty of the dress, the sweet smell of perfume, the sublime enveloping sound and the clouds of dusting powder rising from the stage, the performance creates a multi-sensual experience. There, in communion with the audience, this other Mozart at last tells her story. “Strikingly beautiful” – New York Times “A gem of a show” – The Stage (London) “dazzling, original performance… hauntingly beautiful compositions… the dress is worthy of a gallery installation all its own.” – LA Times “fascinating and irresistibly intelligent… it is beautiful.” – Theatermania “This show is the height of theatrical achievement.” — Theater is Easy

By a Thread

By a Thread

By a Thread is an aerial circus show featuring seven Australian acrobats and 30 metres of rope. The cast uses two industrial pulleys and heavy-duty sailing rope to create acrobatic and choreographed sequences that explore themes of trust, connection, and relationships. The performance weaves together virtuosic acrobatics and intricate choreography, with moments of confusion, hilarity, romance, playfulness, fear, and friendship. The rope serves as a physical manifestation of trust, used as a metaphor for community and the dynamics of connecting with one another. Performers work 6 metres above the ground. The ensemble has toured in Europe, Canada, and Asia. The show uses only one prop onstage — 30 metres of white cotton rope — with classic acrobatic techniques applied in expansive ways. Director and company co-founder Charice Rust notes: "At the core of By a Thread is a desire to share with the audience the trust implicit in ensemble acrobatic work. Circus is a powerful art form because what you see before you is actually what is happening. When you see someone taking a risk by hanging upside down from a rope that is held up only by other people, there is no illusion or trick, that risk is real and the audience can feel that." This is a one-night-only performance at BPAC.

Modern Biology

Modern Biology has brought ‘plant music’ to the masses. Originally educated as a biologist, veteran musician Tarun Nayar brings his passion for nature and sound together in an ambient project that is organismic, immediate, uplifting, and deeply contextual. He uses modular synthesis, home built synthesizers and other analog equipment to improvise with the natural vibrations of a certain place and time – via plant bioelectricity, latent electromagnetic radiation, and even the earth’s resonant hum. Trained from childhood in Indian classical music, he uses the system of Indian raga to mold his musical choices for time of day and season. His performances are an effort to bring the listener into the present moment through vibration, space, and connection. His videos have been viewed over 100 million times and amassed him over 1 million followers online, and he has been featured by The Guardian, LA Times, BBC, Genius, Vice, The Verge, and DJ Mag among others. His recent albums have received editorial support on Spotify’s Music for Plants, Deep Listening, and Lava Lamp playlists. Recent live performances include Art Basel (Miami), MOCA (Los Angeles), New York Botanical Garden, and the Vancouver Art Gallery. Tarun’s ‘Field Trip’ project is an effort to reconnect listeners to the natural environment, especially in urban settings. Audiences assemble in a public park, forage, and then listen to music improvised from the bioelectric impulses of collected plants and mushrooms. Recent field trips include New York City, San Francisco, San Diego, Vancouver, and Toronto. In the fall of 2023 Modern Biology opens the Nobel Prize Museum’s Fungi Exhibition in Stockholm. Tarun is passionate about protecting wild places and has committed the lion’s share of the proceeds of this project to supporting the natural world.
