Celebrate BPAC’s 15th Anniversary Season with WANDER, a free, site-responsive arts experience that invites you to explore the Centre in unexpected ways. From hidden corners and tucked-away spaces to places you may have never noticed before, BPAC will come alive with dance, music, acrobatics, visual art, spoken word, interactive installations and surprising artistic encounters. Created through an open call and curated selection process, WANDER transforms BPAC into a playground of performance, discovery and connection, where art pops up in unexpected places and creativity is around every corner. Meet the Artists Adam Paolozza | Theatre Main Theatre Experience an intimate and imaginative puppet performance entitled The Critic Dreams by acclaimed theatre artist Adam Paolozza. A tragicomic vignette in which a grumpy critic attends a performance only to fall asleep…and have his heart awoken. This puppet & scene were sculpted, built and developed by Adam Paolozza during a wearable puppet building workshop in Brussels, Belgium earlier this year. Adam is an award winning theatre creator and teacher, and the Artistic Director of Bad New Days. His work fuses elements of mask, mime, movement, physical theatre, clown and object work to create dynamic, original devised creations. His latest work, the multi-Dora nominated Last Landscape, engages with eco-dramaturgy, exploring a holistic approach to sustainability in theatre creation & practice. His work has been recognized with numerous awards, including seven Dora Awards, the Ray Ferris Innovation and Sustainability Grant, and he has toured nationally and internationally. Adam has taught theatre privately for over 20 years, and has been a sessional instructor at University of Toronto, U of T Mississauga, Toronto Metropolitan University, Humber College, Soulpepper Academy, and Brock University. Adam trained at TMU, the Lecoq school in Paris, and holds an MA in Performance Studies from York University. Adam is an award-winning performer, director, writer and producer. In 2014 Adam created BAD NEW DAYS to produce his own projects and explore his vision of a contemporary poetic theatre of gesture.”I’m searching for an autonomous theatre that responds to, rather than reflects, contemporary existence. A theatre based in a practice dedicated to formal experimentation and collaborative, devised creation.” Adam trained at the Lecoq school in Paris and studied mask with the Sartori family in Italy. With his company Bad New Days he’s developed a uniquely physical approach to creating theatre in Canada, with such works as Spent, The Double, Flashing Lights, Paolozzapedia, Italian Mime Suicide and The Cave. Alex Ring | Live Music + Video Art Marshalling Room | Ongoing Performance Step into the Marshalling Room and get swept away by an immersive, ever-evolving world of sound and visuals created live by a collection of artists. Alex Ring is a musician, born in St. Catharines. He continues to lives there with his young family, working as an elementary school teacher with the DSBN. As a solo artist, he primarily plays the violin with other sound sources, including sine-wave oscillators, guitar, etc. His recorded music involves manipulation of found sources, along with “traditional” instrumentation. Layering is a key component to his sound, resulting in everything from minimalist drone to dense soundscapes and “noise”. Anthony Perri | Improvised Music + Video Art Marshalling Room | Ongoing Performance Step into the Marshalling Room and get swept away by an immersive, ever-evolving world of sound and visuals created live by a collection of artists. Anthony Perri is a Niagara musician who has been creating, performing and producing shows in the independent and experimental music scenes around the region and Toronto for about 20 years. His interest lies in creating soundscapes and playing with sonic textures and incorporating visual and movement aspects. Bandology | Interactive Music Loading Dock | Ongoing Tamobourines and Drumsticks and Triangles, Oh My! Make some noise with Bandology in a playful, hands-on percussion experience. Pick up an instrument, try something new and join in as rhythms and sounds come together. Bandology is a Canadian non-profit dedicated to more music for more kids via education, collaboration and community. Founded by parents who have witnessed the long-term benefits of music education, Bandology strives to provide, support and advocate for music programs that makes a difference in the lives of children and youth now and into the future.
