Halton Buttertart Festival and Holiday Market Returns November 22 in Milton

The Halton Buttertart Festival and Holiday Market comes back on Saturday, November 22, in a new room. This year's edition runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Milton Banquet and Conference Centre, 3090 Steeles Ave. W.

Admission is pay what you can, and the donations go to The Infant Food Bank at the Milton Community Resource Centre.

The tarts are the reason to go, and the flavours have travelled well past raisin. The Butter Tart Shack is bringing peach cobbler tarts, The Ten of Tarts has spirited maple versions, and Grandma's Beach Treats arrives with bold pairings like maple bacon and hot chocolate. Karen's Corner, Hillary's Cupcakes and Desserts, and Bruno's Bakery and Cafe, a festival fixture since 2018, fill out the bakers' tables.

The Holiday Market runs alongside the bakers, with local artisan vendors selling gifts, including handmade crochet pickles from MKS Shoppe.

Crowds have shown up since the beginning. The 2018 debut sold more than 10,000 butter tarts in its first 90 minutes, according to curator and co-founder Pat Cluett. This is the festival's eighth year, so get there early!

Making a day of it

Rattlesnake Point at 7200 Appleby Line is open year round, with valley views from Buffalo Crag Lookout Point. The Nassagaweya Canyon Trail runs from there to Crawford Lake past cliff edge cedars, some of them more than 800 years old.
