Halton's Wheeled Garbage Carts Come to Burlington's Ward 4 First
Halton Region is switching to automated waste collection with standardized wheeled carts, and Ward 4 will be the first area fully converted this fall. Regional Council approved the region-wide rollout after a multi-year pilot.
Every household gets a 120-litre green organics cart with a gravity lock to keep pests out, and a 240-litre garbage cart that holds about three or four bags. Residents who produce less garbage can request a smaller 120-litre garbage cart, holding one or two bags, online until August 15.
The program rolls out in two phases over the next two years until it reaches every Halton household with curbside collection. Direct mail has gone to the first wave of households, and information sessions run through the summer.
Details and the smaller-cart request form are at halton.ca/wheeledcarts.
