Burlington Remembrance Day Services Run From 9am to Noon on November 11

Three separate things happen downtown on November 11, and they run back to back. The City of Burlington has released the schedule for Remembrance Day, and the services fill the morning from 9am to noon.

The first is at the water. A 30 minute Burl-Oak Naval Veterans service starts at 9am at the Naval Ships Memorial Monument in Spencer Smith Park.

At 10:30am a procession of armoured personnel carriers leaves Central School and moves down Brant toward Elgin, Locust and Ontario Street, finishing at the Cenotaph in Veteran Square. A flyover by Harvard aircraft, the low wing planes flown during the Second World War, is also planned.

The main service follows at 11am at Veteran Square, beside City Hall, run by Royal Canadian Legion Branch 60. It takes in a Call to Order, O Canada, the Last Post, a moment of silence, music from the Burlington Teen Tour Band and the laying of wreaths.

The morning in order

9am, Naval Ships Memorial Monument, Spencer Smith Park. 10:30am, procession from Central School to Veteran Square. 11am, Legion Branch 60 service at Veteran Square.

"We will remember those, past and present, who protect our freedom, which we still hold so sacred today," said Bob Ankrett, City Liaison and Museum Curator for the Burlington Legion, in inviting residents to the parade and service at the Cenotaph. Both ceremonies are outdoors, so dress for the morning you get.
