Burlington's PV Labs Wins Lockheed Martin Backing for Apache Night Vision Sensors
A Burlington company is going to help Apache helicopter pilots see in the dark. PV Labs, the aerospace defence technology firm based in the city, has been approved for funding from Lockheed Martin to develop new night vision sensors for the Apache, designed to improve what a pilot can see at night and in poor weather.
The size of the investment has not been made public, though Lockheed Martin has put more than $14 million into PV Labs since 2019.
Mark Chamberlain, president and founder of PV Labs, called the approval a significant milestone in a press release, saying it "underscores the strength and maturity of Canadian innovation within the global aerospace and defence industry" and reinforces the company's standing as Lockheed Martin's research and delivery partner of choice in Canada for complex optronics systems.
Lockheed Martin has kept a presence in Canada and a partnership with the federal government for 85 years, going back to the Second World War. The government recently purchased 26 of the company's High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems for $2.6 billion.
