Miga Korean Barbecue Opening at 370 Brant Street This Winter
The old Coop Wicked Chicken space at 370 Brant St. has a new tenant. Miga, a Korean barbecue restaurant that has run in Mississauga since 2004, is opening its second location there. Renovations are underway and the target is late December or January.
Korean barbecue grills thin slices of meat quickly at the table, close to the opposite of the long slow smoking most people picture. Miga started when Stella Song Kim moved to Mississauga after seven years at a high end Korean barbecue restaurant in Tokyo and opened her own place.
"My family loves to go to the restaurants in downtown Burlington and we always thought that this would be a great location," said John You, one of the owners and Chef Song's husband. "When we saw the location open up, we thought it was a good opportunity and we put in an offer, and renovations are already going on."
Some staff will move over from the Mississauga restaurant, and the downtown location could create as many as 15 local jobs once it opens. The menu runs to A5 Wagyu, the top grade of Japanese beef, and there are halal options for anyone who needs them.
You said the Mississauga customer base covers anniversaries, birthdays and plain weeknight dinners, and he is hoping Burlington takes to the restaurant the same way. Miga opened a Vaughan location last year and lost the space in March, when a Metrolinx transit project required the building to be demolished.
