Burlington Heritage Week Runs August 1 to 8: Free Walks, Talks and Tours
Burlington is about to spend a week celebrating its own history. Heritage Week runs August 1 to 8, eight days of free events built around the city's past: waterfront walks, trivia nights, talks, tours and art.
The week opens Saturday, August 1 at 10 a.m. with a ceremony at the LaSalle Park Pavilion, with music from Olivia Brown and light refreshments. Right after, Alan Harrington of the Burlington Historical Society leads a waterfront walk through the park, sharing the story of the explorer it is named for, René-Robert Cavelier de La Salle.
From there the lineup spreads across the city. Arts Burlington takes over The Hub at Burlington Centre with a water-themed art installation all week, there is a trivia night at the Burlington Performing Arts Centre on August 5, a McMaster professor's talk on Joseph Brant's legacy on the 6th, and Doors Open Burlington on August 8, a citywide tour capped by a beach clean-up.
Most events are free, but register early
Everything is free to attend, though several events have limited capacity and need advance registration. Sign-ups stay open until July 31, so book the ones you want before they fill.
