BurlingtonGreen Marks National Forestry Week With Plantings and Workshops

BurlingtonGreen has a run of tree events lined up for National Forestry Week later this month, and most of them involve getting your hands in the dirt.

Kyle McLoughlin, the City of Burlington's Master Arborist and supervisor of forest planning and health, leads an Ask an Arborist webinar on Wednesday, September 23, then a tree care and planting workshop at Mohawk Park starting at 9 a.m. on Thursday, September 24. The workshop has limited spots and needs an RSVP ahead of time.

The week finishes with a community tree planting at Longmoor Park on Saturday, September 26, where residents can help with weeding, mulching and planting. That one also asks for an RSVP.

Alongside the events, the annual tree photo contest is open. Send a photo of a tree somewhere in Burlington, with a short description and the location, to bg@burlingtongreen.org by October 30. Community voting picks the winner, and the prize is a $50 gift card to Connon Nurseries.

"Trees hold immense value to people and wildlife; they enrich our connection to nature and breathe life into our urban spaces," said Michelle Beltran, program coordinator at BurlingtonGreen, in a press release.
