Three Burlington Firms Land $7.5M in Federal Funding

Three Burlington companies are splitting $7.5 million in federal funding to expand their manufacturing and tech work. Burlington MP Karina Gould announced the money on Monday afternoon at PV Labs' headquarters off Waterdown Road.

PV Labs, an imaging company, is getting $5 million through the Regional Defence Investment Initiative to scale up domestic production of its camera systems for aerospace and defence. The company employs more than 70 people locally and is putting the funding toward a $14 million expansion project.

Modern Elevator Innovations will receive $1 million to modernize equipment and increase fabrication capacity. Spatial Data Analytics, an AI engineering firm, gets $1.5 million to expand its work with telecom and utility companies.

PV Labs president and CEO Mark Chamberlain said the money will go toward growth, new equipment, marketing, and sales, in a market Canada has been slow to compete in. In his words, the country is catching up fast. The funding came through the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario.
