Hydro Pole Work Starts on Dundas Street Ahead of a $63-Million Widening

Cranes are up on Dundas Street near Guelph Line, installing taller hydro poles to clear the way for the next phase of Halton Region's widening project. Tree crews spent the past several weeks clearing the corridor ahead of the work.

The stretch from Guelph Line to east of Kerns Road is phase 3, and it reaches the Halton and Hamilton boundary. The $63-million project takes Dundas from four lanes to six and adds dedicated on-road bike lanes, new multi-use paths and sidewalks, new bus stops and shelters, upgraded stormwater infrastructure, new traffic signals and street lights, new bridges and fresh road resurfacing.

It also deals with the intersection where Cedar Springs Road and Brant Street meet Dundas, which the region has flagged as a high-collision spot.

Construction is expected to start later this year and wrap between 2028 and 2029. Work has been running along Dundas since 2021, east of Appleby Line out to Bronte Road, so drivers can expect the same kind of lane closures they have already been living with, just farther west.

Anyone who uses Dundas between Guelph Line and Kerns Road should plan on closures being part of the route until at least 2028.
