Burlington Is Building Two New Neighbourhood Parks and Wants Your Input

Two vacant lots in Burlington are becoming neighbourhood parks, and the city is asking the people who live around them what should go in. One sits at 1150 Cooke Blvd., east of Waterdown Road. The other is at 1411 Almonte Dr., west of Brant Street.

Both were set aside as park space when the housing around them went up, and the city bought each one for $2. The Cooke Boulevard block came from Adi Developments in December 2018 and covers 0.70 acres. The Almonte Drive block was bought from National Homes in August 2022 and covers 0.764 acres.

Online surveys for both open September 15 and are expected to close October 6. City staff will also be on site for pop-up meetings: Cooke Park on Tuesday, September 22 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. and Saturday, September 26 from 9 to 11 a.m., then Almonte Park on Thursday, September 24 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. and Sunday, September 27 from 9 to 11 a.m.

The 2026 budget carries $200,000 for design. A consultant is expected back with two concepts for each park in mid-December, and residents get an online vote on those options between January 11 and 25, 2027. Construction is pencilled in for June to November 2027, and the roughly $1.5 million build cost still needs council approval in the 2027 budget.
