What's Open and Closed in Burlington on the Civic Holiday, August 3

The Civic Holiday falls on Monday, August 3. Most City of Burlington services close for the day, transit drops to a Sunday schedule, and garbage collection runs a day later than usual for the rest of the week.

Closed Monday: city hall, banks, most Halton Region offices and services (essential and 24-hour services stay running), and most community centres, seniors' centres, arenas, indoor pools and libraries.

Open Monday: parks and most outdoor recreation. Nelson Pool and Splash Park, Mountainside Pool and Splash Park, and LaSalle Wading Pool and Splash Park are all running, along with the outdoor splash pads. Conservation Halton parks are open too, including Kelso, Rattlesnake Point, Mount Nemo, Crawford Lake, Hilton Falls and Mountsberg.

Most grocery stores, restaurants and drugstores are open, though hours vary by location, so call ahead. Most LCBO and Wine Rack stores are open, and the Beer Store at 5051 New Street runs 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Burlington Centre and Mapleview Mall are both open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Burlington Transit runs a Sunday schedule, with times varying by route, and GO Transit runs a Saturday schedule. There is no garbage pickup on Monday, and every collection day after it moves back by one.

Heritage Week events run through the long weekend, including the free water-themed art show at Burlington Centre, so there is plenty going on even with the city offices dark.
