Volunteers Wanted To Pick Up Cigarette Butts Along Lakeshore Road

Cigarette butts are one in every five pieces of litter picked up on the shoreline cleanups A Greener Future runs. On Tuesday, September 29, volunteers can spend two hours going after them along Lakeshore Road.

The cleanup runs from 5 to 7 p.m. at the BurlingtonGreen Environmental Association at 1094 Lakeshore Rd. It is one stop in the Unsmoke Butt Blitz, which A Greener Future runs nationally and which is now recognized as the world's largest cigarette litter cleanup.

The target across the country for April and September of this year is 1.5 million butts. Since 2015 the campaign's volunteers have collected more than 6.3 million of them, which go to TerraCycle Canada for recycling.

Organizers will be on site to talk about the campaign and how people can get involved locally. Two hours, by the lake. Come out!
