Heritage Week 2026: Hike the Twelve Mile Creek Valley on the River and Ruin Trail
Joe Borges, Hike Director for the Iroquois Bruce Trail Club, will lead a guided hike along the River and Ruin trail through the Twelve Mile Creek Valley. The route explores Burlington's early settlement history, including the stories of Kilbride, Lowville, and the Cleaver family mill and homestead from nearly two hundred years ago. Hikers will see limestone ruins, a historic mill site, and Twelve Mile Creek, which powered early industry in the valley.
Wear weather-appropriate hiking boots and clothing. Bring a sun hat, sunscreen, bug spray, and water.
Dogs are not permitted.
Parking is at the Kilbride Park parking lot behind the school. Pre-registration is required at River and Ruin Trail Hike. Maximum of 35 people.
