🥁 Parade or No Parade?

photo from Sound of Music Festival

We have another update on the Lakeshore Music and Arts Festival, which we reported on last Friday. While plans for the new waterfront event are moving ahead, attention at city hall has shifted to what is not included. New organizer MRG Live has confirmed it will not run the traditional Saturday morning parade, something that many residents see as non negotiable.

That decision sparked strong reaction from council. Mayor Marianne Meed Ward warned that residents will be quick to notice its absence. Staff estimate the parade would cost about $50,000 to produce. The city is now reaching out to see if a community group such as a service club is willing to organize it instead, with city funding available. Let’s hope Burlington can come together to make the parade still happen.

🍕 Blondies Pizza Coming to Burlington

A local Reddit user recently made a post saying they drove through the plaza at Appleby and Fairview and noticed signs suggesting Blondie’s Pizza may be moving into the former Pizza Boat space. There has been no official announcement yet, so for now this sits firmly in the wait and see category.

If it does turn out to be true, Blondie’s would be a familiar name to many. The pizza spot started in Leslieville in 2018 and built a strong following for its classic and gourmet pies made with high quality ingredients. It has since expanded across the GTA, including a well known Oakville location. For Burlington pizza fans, this would be a welcome addition if it pans out.

🚌 Transit Still Going Nowhere Fast

The city has released an updated Burlington Climate Plan, and it puts more emphasis on transit than earlier versions. Transportation remains one of Burlington’s largest sources of greenhouse gas emissions, and the plan positions transit as a key way to reduce that impact over time.

Local group Burlington for Accessible Sustainable Transit says the missing piece is accountability. They note the share of trips taken by transit is barely better than it was in 1975. While measures like free fares, bus priority lanes, and signal priority are encouraging, advocates say real progress depends on clear targets and committed funding to move transit use forward.

🐱 Pet Spotlight: Meet Hilton!

Hilton arrived at the shelter with several of her housemates. She comes from a home with many cats, so she’s comfortable around other feline friends. In her previous home, she was affectionate and friendly, but the shelter has been a little overwhelming for her.

With patience, gentle care, and a calm environment, Hilton will blossom and show her playful, loving personality. She would do best in a quiet, peaceful home where she can feel safe and secure. Hilton is ready to find someone who will give her time, love, and a forever home to call her own.
