Over the Ridge – The Story of Vimy Ridge

Over the Ridge examines the Battle of Vimy Ridge—often called the "battle that made Canada"—which resulted in over 10,000 Canadian casualties. Through direct storytelling, live music, and dance, the production explores misconceptions and varying perspectives on that battle while drawing parallels to other formative events in Canadian history.

The show features inventive musical interpretations of WWI soldier songs and original choreography performed by members of Ballet Jörgen. It probes difficult yet necessary questions about how and why we grieve, offering both a vivid, kinetic journey through history and an intimate, personal examination of our connection to the past.

Over the Ridge is a visceral work that passionately argues against the exploitation of young lives. The Globe and Mail called it "poignant and sobering" and named it a Top 10 Arts Pick in 2020.

Created by writer Brendan McLeod and director Julia Course, with music by The Fugitives (Brendan McLeod, Adrian Glynn, Carly Frey, Christopher Suen), choreography by Jacob Williams, and performed by Ballet Jörgen dancers.
