Wildcraft Grill Coming To Burlington 🍽

Wildcraft Grill + Long Bar is headed for Burlington Centre as Charcoal Group moves ahead with a $30 million GTA expansion.
We briefly covered the restaurant in our earlier Burlington Centre mall expansion news, where plans included converting the former Old Navy loading bay into outdoor seating.
The restaurant blends wine bar polish with a relaxed hangout feel, serving sushi, steaks, burgers, and a curated wine list. CEO Jody Palubiski says the goal is to create community hubs, not just another dining option, pushing back against the takeout-first model common in smaller GTA markets. No firm opening date has been announced, but the Burlington location is expected within 18 months.
Award-Winning Author in Town 📚
A Different Drummer Books will host award-winning Canadian author Vicki Grant tonight for the launch of These Are The Fireworks, her first novel written for adults.
Grant has spent more than 20 years building a name in young adult fiction, with titles including Dead End Job, A Green Velvet Secret, and Nine Doors, making this Burlington appearance a notable shift in her career rather than just another book signing.
The new novel follows a family shaken by the suspicious death of its father, as the daughter begins questioning whether the accident was really an accident. Published earlier this year, the book gets its official launch at 7pm tonight here in Burlington.
Local MP Defends World Cup Spending ⚽️
Burlington North, Milton West MP Adam van Koeverden is defending the roughly $1 billion in taxpayer money being spent to bring FIFA World Cup matches to Toronto and Vancouver this summer, calling it a solid investment for Canada.
Van Koeverden, named Canada's FIFA Sherpa for the tournament, says the games are expected to add billions to the country's GDP and have already created tens of thousands of jobs. More than 35 Canadian cities will host fan fests tied to the event.
Toronto is covering $380 million in costs, including upgrades to BMO Field. Vancouver's price tag is over $483 million. The federal government is adding another $145 million for enhanced security.

Victoria Day Planting 🌳

Victoria Day weekend is often treated as the unofficial start of summer gardening, and this weekends forecast could make it a tough decision.
The long weekend is expected to bring daytime highs around 17°C to 21°C, with overnight floating around 10°C. Vicky Cullen, president of the Ontario Horticultural Association, says tender plants like tomatoes and cucumbers should wait until nighttime temperatures are consistently above 10°C before planting.
Hardy crops like peas can handle cooler conditions, but delicate vegetables are still a bit of a gamble if the wind, soil, or your specific yard runs colder. For all you eager gardeners, planting this weekend is possible, but waiting a few more days would be the safer bet.
Pet Spotlight: Meet Romeo! 🐈⬛
Romeo is a beautiful longhaired black cat with a gentle soul. At just 9 months old, he did very well in foster care, where he felt safe and comfortable, but he is finding the shelter environment a little overwhelming and scary.
Romeo will need a patient and understanding family willing to give him the time he needs to settle into his new home and build trust. Once he feels secure, his loving personality shines through. He absolutely loves affection and attention and enjoys being close to his people.
With kindness, patience, and a calm home, Romeo will grow into a loyal and wonderful companion.
