🥅 When to Watch Burlington Olympians

If you’re following the Winter Olympics this week, a few Burlington athletes are already in the mix for Team Canada. Hockey players Renata Fast and Emma Maltais are competing in women’s hockey in Italy. Games have already started and will continue into the week, with Canada vs. USA happening tomorrow.

Also in Milano-Cortina is Chris Holmstead, serving as a backup brakeman for Canada’s men’s bobsleigh team. Bobsleigh events begin next week. Check out the specific dates and times below. ⬇️

🚧 Spruce Avenue Construction Starts This Spring

Spruce Avenue is getting a new watermain in 2026, with construction starting this spring and expected to last until December. Work will include road paving, curb and sidewalk repairs, storm sewer work, and some streetlight upgrades. The watermain is being done by the Region of Halton, with the rest handled by the City of Burlington.

An information session for residents is scheduled for next week at Burlington Centennial Pool. The session will explain the work, timelines, and what to expect during construction on Spruce Avenue.

🏗️ City Weighs Builder Fee Options

Burlington city council is looking at whether to temporarily reduce or remove development charges. These are fees builders pay to help cover costs like roads, sewers, and community spaces when new housing is built. Local builders, through the West End Home Builders’ Association, say the fees make some projects hard to start and are asking for short-term relief.

City staff have laid out a few choices for council, including only removing the fees for certain rental housing projects. Each option would cost the City of Burlington a different amount, and council will decide if any changes should move ahead.

🎭 Drury Lane Turns 50 This Spring

Burlington’s Drury Lane Theatrical Productions is marking its 50th season with a spring musical that leans fully into the Roaring 20s. Nice Work If You Can Get It runs May 8 to 31 and brings bootleggers, big band music, and classic Gershwin tunes to the stage in a light, old-school musical comedy.

The show centres on a chance meeting between a bootlegger and a wealthy groom-to-be, with plenty of chaos once wedding guests and hidden gin collide. It’s a fun, upbeat pick for longtime theatre-goers and anyone looking for a lively night out, especially as the company celebrates a major milestone in Burlington’s arts scene.

🐉 A Colourful Lunar New Year in Burlington

From dragon dances to tea tastings, Burlington’s Year of the Horse celebrations filled the Burlington Performing Arts Centre with colour and activity. Hosted by Redleaf Cultural Integration, the event featured martial arts performances, traditional dances, sugar art, and hands-on cultural displays.
