🎉 Burlington Unveils Two Major Community Hubs
Burlington is celebrating two landmark projects this fall, marking a new chapter in community growth and sustainability. The Robert Bateman Community Centre is opening in phases, with Brock University students arriving this September, a new Appleby Library branch launching Sept. 15, and TechPlace set for November. By fall 2025, the Halton District School Board will move in, with further renovations and outdoor space development planned through 2026, capped by a grand opening celebration.
Meanwhile, the Skyway Community Centre will officially reopen on Sept. 20 after a $39-million modernization. The revitalized 4,300-square-metre facility now boasts a geothermal system cutting emissions by 85 per cent, alongside an NHL-sized rink, baseball diamond, and versatile indoor programming space. The grand opening will feature skating performances, sledge hockey, free public skating, and family activities, bringing fresh life to the 48-year-old building while aligning with Burlington’s net-zero goals.
🌙 Moonlit Garden Concert at RBG
Juno Award-winning singer-songwriter Rufus Wainwright will perform a one-night-only concert at Hendrie Park in the Royal Botanical Gardens on Wednesday, Sept. 17, offering an intimate evening under the harvest moon. Tickets are priced at $60 and doors open at 5:30 pm. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets for this unique outdoor experience - don’t miss out!

⚓ Memorial to Honour Merchant Marines

The Burl-Oak Naval Veterans will hold a public service at Spencer Smith Park on Wednesday, Sept. 3, to honour Canadian Merchant Marines who gave their lives in the Battle of the Atlantic during the Second World War.
The ceremony runs from 11 a.m. to noon at the navy memorial monument. Canada lost about 75 ships and nearly 1,500 merchant sailors during the war, and the service will pay tribute to their sacrifice.
