Touch a Truck This Weekend 🚛

Nelson Park is turning into a mini construction yard this weekend as Burlington’s Touch-a-Truck event brings out the big machines, from buses and public works vehicles to construction equipment and vintage trucks.

The free event runs this Saturday from 11am-2pm and includes a snowplow simulator, plus a non-perishable food drive for the Compassion Society. It is part of National Public Works Week, which celebrates the crews who keep roads clear, transit moving and city services running. A fun and unique way to spend your Saturday, plus kids love trucks.

Coast Appliances Closes 🔒

Coast Appliances is closing its Burlington location at 2311 Appleby Line as part of a nationwide shutdown affecting all 17 of its Canadian stores.

The home and kitchen retailer, founded in 1978, sold major appliances including fridges, washers, dryers, ovens, microwaves and dishwashers, along with premium brands such as Wolf, Sub-Zero and Thermador.

A going-out-of-business sale is now underway at the Burlington store, with discounts across its product selection. Coast says delivery, haul-away, installation and financing will continue during the sale, and manufacturer warranties remain valid on new and display appliances. For anyone mid-reno or in need of an appliance refresh, the timing could be pretty favourable for you.

Local Artist Turns Parks Into Paintings 🖼️

Michael Brennan has turned Burlington’s parks and waterfront into his open-air studio since moving to the city two years ago.

The full-time digital artist can often be spotted with an easel among the trees, creating scenes from Halton favourites like Spencer Smith Park, Royal Botanical Gardens and Bronte Creek Provincial Park.

His work is inspired by impressionists like Monet and van Gogh, focusing on light and feeling rather than exact detail. Brennan has painted hundreds of local scenes and shares some of the process on YouTube, using videos as a personal journal. For anyone who has seen an artist painting lakeside, there is a good chance it was him.

Pet Spotlight: Meet Lucie! 🐱

Meet lovely Lucie, a beautiful 1½-year-old sweetheart looking for a calm and loving forever home. While she did very well in her foster home, the shelter environment has been overwhelming for her.

Lucie would thrive in a quiet home with patient adopters who will give her the time she needs to settle in and feel safe. Once comfortable, her gentle personality shines through.

She has lived peacefully with other cats and would do well with a feline companion or as your one and only pet. Lucie is ready to find the understanding family she deserves.
