Three New Festivals in July 🎉

Tourism Burlington
Burlington is getting three new summer festivals this July, all of them spinoffs from the city's search for a music festival provider last fall.
The Taste of Philippines runs July 10-12 at Central Park, the Burlington Waterfront Festival takes over Spencer Smith Park July 17-19, and the Halal Food Festival lands at LaSalle Park July 18-19. All three came out of proposals submitted during the city's November call for applications.
Also happening next month are Canada Day celebrations on July 1 and a FIFA World Cup watch party on July 9, both at Spencer Smith Park. Burlington council budgeted up to $160,000 for the FIFA event, which includes a live Quarter Final match screening and soccer programming.
Mboko Partners With Serena Williams 🏆

Burlington tennis player Victoria Mboko is teaming up with Serena Williams for a doubles tournament starting today at Queen's Club in London.
Williams, the former world no. 1 with 23 major singles titles, was granted a wild card invitation to play after what was thought to be her final match at the 2022 U.S. Open.
Mboko shared the news on Instagram, calling it an honour to share the court with one of the greatest athletes of all time.
Walkers Line Work Delayed 🚧
The long-awaited Walkers Line renewal between North Service Road and Dundas Street won't start today as originally planned. City staff said Friday the contractor now expects to begin preparing for construction the week of June 15.
The $13.8-million first phase includes asphalt work, new cycling infrastructure, sidewalk repairs, and the removal of 49 trees. Work on the stretch between North Service and Upper Middle Road is targeted for completion by the end of this year, with the section south to Berton Avenue wrapping up by the end of 2027.
The project will bring rolling lane and sidewalk closures as the work progresses. The city says it's coordinating with school transportation to keep pickup locations safe and accessible.

Used Book Sale Draws Crowds 📚
Grace United Church's annual used book sale brought out hundreds of Burlington residents over the weekend, with thousands of donated books priced between $1 and $3.
The sale featured everything from fiction and children's books to cookbooks and gardening guides. Volunteers spent weeks sorting donations to get ready for the event.
Proceeds support the church's community programs and local charity work. The sale has been a June tradition for over 20 years.
Fast Protected by Sceptres 🏆
Andrew Lahodynskyj/COC
Burlington's Renata Fast is staying with the Toronto Sceptres. The defender was named one of the first three players protected by Toronto as the Professional Women's Hockey League prepares to add four new teams next season.
Fast put up 10 points in 26 games with the Sceptres last season and was named PWHL defender of the year. She also played a huge part on the Canadian Olympic team in Milan, where she recorded four assists in seven games.
The league is expanding to 12 teams for the 2026-27 season, with new franchises in Detroit, San Jose, Las Vegas, and Hamilton. Each existing team can protect up to 10 players from being selected in the expansion draft.
