🎄 Three Things To Do This Season

As the colder weather settles in, Burlington has a handful of seasonal happenings that will be running over the next days/weeks. ⬇️

Winter Wonders runs Thursdays to Sundays from November 27 to January 4, turning RBG’s Hendrie Park into a calm, illuminated pathway with interactive light pieces and festive displays.

Ireland House After Dark: Victorian Christmas takes place from November 14 to December 12, 2025, with select evening dates. These guided tours explore how the Ireland family prepared for the holidays, with the house fully decorated and stories that highlight the roots of long-standing traditions.

The Burlington Festival of Lights brightens the waterfront from November 28, 2025 to January 7, 2026, with more than 60 displays spread along the shoreline. Open nightly from 5:00–11:30 p.m.

🏛️ Burlington 2026 Budget Review Highlights

Council’s first round of 2026 budget talks brought a few notable decisions, including but not limited to:

  • Approving a $180,000 funding request from Burlington Public Library

  • Approval to Hire a financial analyst to help improve returns on the city’s $480M portfolio

  • A denied funding requests for Burlington Transit

Councillors and the mayor put forward 22 proposals in all, aiming to trim $2.3 million while adding another $2.46 million to the proposed $387.3-million operating budget.

🛒 Bin Raiders Liquidation Offers a Treasure Hunt

Bin Raiders on Guelph Line is a new liquidation shop that’s creating plenty of buzz for its mix of surprise finds and fast-changing prices. The store brings in returned and overstocked items from major retailers, filling its bins with everything from books and kitchen tools to toys and the occasional standout tech item.

New stock lands on Saturdays, when everything starts at $25, and the price drops each day until it reaches $1.50 on Fridays. Shoppers say the real appeal is the thrill of discovery, with some walking out with headphones, small appliances, or even big-ticket items for a fraction of their usual cost.

🛠️ A Quiet Space Making Big Change

This story comes from the reporting of Kezia Royer-Burkett, who captured how the Men’s Shed movement has taken root in Burlington. The idea is straightforward: give men a place to work shoulder-to-shoulder, not face-to-face, so conversations can happen naturally. As founder Ron Smith said, “Men aren’t going to sit around in a circle talking about their feelings,” and that honesty is exactly why the model works.

Around here, the Shed has become a steady anchor for men who might otherwise slip into isolation, especially as men’s mental health gets more attention. A simple hike, a volunteer shift, or a shared cup of coffee often turns into something deeper. Without forcing it, guys end up talking about life in ways they never would in a more formal setting.

The impact is easy to see. Membership has grown past 30 with almost no one drifting away, and the group has helped everywhere from local food programs to park projects. With a second location opening in 2026, the Burlington Men’s Shed is becoming more than a meeting place, it’s a quiet, dependable way for men to find purpose, routine, and real connection.

🎄 How the Grinch Failed to Steal Burlington’s Christmas

Just hours before Ballet Jörgen was set to bring The Nutcracker to Burlington, a truck storing "irreplaceable" sets and backdrops disappeared… a real “Grinch stole Christmas” moment if there ever was one.

Thankfully by late Monday night, police found the truck in Brampton, and the dancers celebrated “like we won the World Cup or something.” Burlington’s show went ahead with full sets, full costumes, and a fully relieved cast. In the end, the Grinch didn’t stand a chance.

At the time of writing this, there a few (and we mean very few) tickets available for the final performance tonight. Get them while you can.
