The Burlington Historical Society is shining a light on one of Canada’s great inventions at its next speaker night on Tuesday, October 14. Local historian and collector Mike Twiss will share stories of P.L. Robertson, the Milton inventor who revolutionized manufacturing with his square-socket screw design.

Held at the Burlington Central Library, the talk explores how Robertson’s innovation shaped local industry and why his legacy still matters today. Guests can even enter to win a gift card.

🎃 Lantern Magic Returns to Hendrie Valley

The Great Pumpkin Trail is back at the Royal Botanical Gardens, lighting up Hendrie Valley with thousands of glowing jack-o-lanterns. Families can wander the illuminated paths Oct. 16–19 and 24–26, enjoying the cozy magic of fall surrounded by twinkling pumpkins and crisp evening air.

For grown-ups, the RBG After Dark: Pumpkin Trail on Oct. 23 promises a spirited night stroll with an adults-only twist. With 10,000 real pumpkins arranged in creative displays, this year’s event is shaping up to be the most enchanting yet.

🎅 Santa Parade Looking For Volunteers

Source: burlingtontoday.com

The City of Burlington is gearing up for its beloved Santa Claus Parade and inviting the community to join the fun. Residents, local groups, and businesses can apply to enter floats before the Oct. 12 deadline, helping bring a little extra sparkle to this cherished holiday tradition.

Volunteers are also needed to keep the parade running smoothly, from organizing floats to guiding crowds. It’s a perfect way to share holiday cheer and be part of the magic that brings Burlington together every December.

🌺 Volunteers Needed for Poppy Campaign

Burlington’s Royal Canadian Legion is gearing up for the annual poppy campaign, running Oct. 31 to Nov. 11. If you have a few hours, your smile and hands can help honour veterans while supporting programs.

Volunteers drop off and collect boxes, offer poppies at shops, and pitch in where needed. It is simple, meaningful work with neighbours. To get involved, reach out to Barry Moore at 905-330-3259.
