🎅 Santa Parade is Here / Road Closures

In case you forgot, the Santa Claus Parade is happening this weekend! Expect floats and marching bands, with Santa coming through as the grand finale. Kids can hand off letters to Santa, and the Oldtimers Hockey Club will be collecting food donations along the way. The parade rolls out Sunday from 2–4 pm, starting at Drury Lane and New Street before heading up Brant to St. John the Baptist.

If you’re driving, just note the road closures around the route from late morning into the afternoon, including stretches of New Street, Drury Lane, and Brant. It’s a good day to walk if you can and settle in early for a great view.

🟠 Support Grows for Corpus Sports Dome

Burlington is taking a real step toward adding much-needed indoor turf space, with councillors supporting talks for a dome at Corpus Christi Secondary School. If things stay on track, students and local teams could be using it by late 2026 or early 2027. The model would be similar to Milton, with a third-party operator running the facility and the community getting affordable time outside school hours.

For residents who travel to other cities for winter field space, this could make life easier without putting costs on taxpayers. The city plans to keep fees reasonable while giving high school athletes access during the colder months. There is still a fair bit of planning ahead, from final council approval to choosing an operator, but it feels like a promising step in the right direction.

🚌 Transit Fares Set to Rise in January

Burlington riders will see small fare increases in the new year, with cash fares going up 25 cents and some Presto taps rising by 10 cents starting Jan. 1. Council approved the changes alongside the 2026 budget, aiming to help cover growing transit costs, from new drivers and a full-time mechanic to operating expenses for recently added buses. Staff note this is the first fare bump in several years.

The shifts will land differently depending on how often people ride. Presto users still benefit from fare capping, and seniors and youth continue to have free periods, but occasional riders paying cash will feel the biggest jump. Transit advocates say they’d prefer no increases, though they acknowledge a small Presto bump could be manageable if it leads to better service.

🚲 Rolling Horse Shares Holiday Joy With Kids

Photo from Rolling Horse Facebook

Rolling Horse Community Cycle brought the gift of giving last weekend, handing out 90 refurbished bikes to local kids who might not otherwise have had one under the tree. Volunteers spent the fall getting each bike ready, and partner agencies helped connect the shop with families.

The group has been doing this work for over a decade, relying on donated bikes and community support to keep things rolling. Any leftover proceeds go to the Next Door Social Space, adding another layer of good to the effort. For many of the volunteers, the best part is still that moment when a child spots their first bike and can hardly believe it’s theirs.

🎁 St. Matthew’s Drive-Through Donations

St. Matthew on the Plains Church is holding an easy drive-through donation event today and again on Wednesday, Dec. 10, inviting residents to drop off food, grocery gift cards, warm socks and other essentials between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. at 126 Plains Road East. It’s a simple way to support neighbours feeling the strain of winter, and the church is hoping to get the community together and make an impact.
