Together with BOMBA

Registration for the 2026 Burlington Challenger Baseball season is now open. Our league provides children and youth with physical and/or cognitive disabilities the opportunity to play baseball in a fun, inclusive, and supportive environment.

While athlete registration is underway, our greatest need is volunteers, known as Buddies. Buddies support players on the field by assisting with batting, catching, base running, and encouragement, helping build confidence and create a positive team atmosphere. No baseball experience is required—just patience, positivity, and a willingness to make a difference. Training is provided before the season begins, and volunteers over 18 must complete a police check.

Games are held Friday evenings from 6–8 p.m. at the Brant Hills baseball diamonds. Buddies may commit to as many Fridays as they are available.

This program depends on volunteers to run successfully. If you are looking for a meaningful way to spend your Friday nights, email [email protected] to get involved and help make 2026 a great season.

Let’s work together.

🍹 Sobr Market Celebrates Grand Opening

Sobr Market, a specialty retailer focused on non alcoholic beers, wines, spirits, and cocktails, officially celebrated its downtown Burlington grand opening last week at 396 Martha St. The store actually opened last summer, but the ribbon cutting marked its formal welcome to the community.

Mayor Marianne Meed Ward joined councillors and owner Amol Sharma for the ceremony at the Martha Street location. Guests sampled zero proof cocktails while learning more about the growing demand for alcohol free drink options.

📚 Library Bookmark Contest Voting

Four bookmarks up for voting in the 18+ category

Burlington Public Library is inviting residents to help choose the winners of its annual Burlington Bookmarks Contest. We shared the call for entries a few weeks ago, and thanks to strong reader support the contest received more than 500 submissions, the most since it launched in 2020!

Voting runs March 4-11, with one winner selected in each of five age categories. The winning designs will be professionally printed and available as free bookmarks at library branches.

🦎 Rare Salamander Migration Returns

An unique spring event is about to take place in Burlington as endangered Jefferson salamanders emerge from underground and migrate to breeding ponds. To protect them, the city will close King Road between North Service Road and Granite Ridge Trail from March 11 to April 8.

The rare species lives mostly beneath the forest floor near the Niagara Escarpment and travels on warm, rainy nights to the ponds where it was born. The seasonal road closure, in place since 2012, helps give these tiny travellers a safe crossing.

🥞 Halton Breakfast Bash Returns

The 16th annual Breakfast Bash supporting Halton Food for Thought is set for May 12 at the Oakville Conference Centre. The fundraiser features breakfast bites from local spots including Joe Dog’s Gasbar Grill, Martini House, Rust BistroBar, Pur & Simple Burlington North, Appleby College, and Mary’s Muffins.

Organizers hope to raise $100,000 to help provide school nutrition programs for nearly 100,000 Halton students across more than 155 schools. With food costs rising and demand growing, every plate helps keep kids fueled for the school day.

💙 Local Donors Support Mental Health

More than 100 members of 100+ Women Who Care Burlington raised about $13,000 in a single evening for Capillary Wave. The donation came after three local charities presented to the group during its quarterly meeting at Burlington Golf and Country Club.

Members each pledge $100 four times a year and vote on which organization receives the pooled donations. This round supports Capillary Wave’s mental health programs for adults facing challenges like isolation, trauma, and major life transitions. A powerful example of community giving in action.
