Mystery fans have something special to look forward to this fall. Four well-known crime fiction authors will be coming together at the Burlington Public Library on Sunday, October 19, to share stories about their writing and the art of crafting a good mystery.

The panel will feature Melodie Campbell, Vicki Delany, Maureen Jennings, and Hannah Mary McKinnon. Running from 2 to 3 p.m. at the Central branch, the event offers readers a rare chance to hear directly from the authors behind some of Canada’s most beloved crime novels.

Ontario is spending $60 million to add 300 new campsites and upgrade 800 more with electricity. It’s the biggest park expansion in 50 years. Work starts at popular parks like Driftwood, Bon Echo, MacGregor Point and Killarney, with more to follow. Sandbanks, which gets around 750,000 visitors a year, will get 73 upgraded sites by summer 2026. The goal is to make camping easier, more comfortable and available to more people.

Burlington came together this past Saturday to celebrate the grand opening of the new Skyway Community Centre and Park. Families enjoyed free skating, a sledge hockey demo, and a dazzling Nexxice performance, with Mayor Marianne Meed Ward dropping the puck.

The $39 million project took three years to complete, giving the 48-year-old building a modern facelift with an NHL-sized rink, baseball diamond, and greener, energy-saving design.

This week, 100 Women Who Care Burlington will gather for their quarterly meeting, shining a light on the impact of local giving. Shifra Homes will share how they used a $12,620 donation received in April to support young mothers in need.

The evening will also feature three new charities, each pitching their mission in hopes of being selected for the next round of support. Since 2014, this women-led group has raised more than $342,000 for causes across Halton.
