A New Community Health Hub 🏥

A new Community Health Centre is coming to Burlington, backed by $2.1 million in provincial funding and designed to give residents easier access to everyday healthcare.

Unlike a typical doctor’s office, this centre brings multiple services together, including physicians, nurses, mental health support and social services, all in one place, aimed especially at people without a family doctor or with more complex needs.

The centre at Support House is expected to start part-time next month and grow to full service by late summer, serving about 4,500 people. With a team-based approach and longer, more flexible care, it fills a gap that has existed in Halton for years, and should take some pressure off local clinics and hospitals as it ramps up.

Waterfront Sculpture Trail Returns 🎨

Instagram post

Burlington’s waterfront is turning into an open-air gallery again as the annual sculpture trail returns to Spencer Smith Park, featuring more than 60 works by Canadian artists through May 31.

The free exhibit stretches 1.5 km, connecting the Art Gallery of Burlington with the downtown core, all set against the park’s cherry blossoms now in bloom.

Visitors can explore on foot or by bike, vote for their favourite pieces via QR codes and join guided tours, family activities and lit-up evening events later in May. With plenty happening along the route, it is shaping up to be one of Burlington’s most lively spring traditions.

Library Closures This Summer 📚

Two Burlington Public Library branches will temporarily close this summer as renovation work gets underway, with more disruption expected at the main downtown location.

The Brant Hills branch shuts down June 1 to July 5 for upgrades including new heat pumps and solar panels, while Kilbride will close June 28 to Sept. 7 due to construction at the school it shares space with.

A partial closure is also expected later this year at the Central Branch on New Street for a roof replacement, though timing is still being finalized. Library programs will be moved where possible and staff reassigned to other locations, so regular users may need to plan a few extra minutes into their next visit.

Burlington Back Drafted To CFL 🏈

Burlington’s own Isaiah Smith is staying close to home after being selected 11th overall by the Toronto Argonauts in the 2026 CFL Draft.

The Guelph Gryphons running back led his team on the ground last season and stepped up in the playoffs with a 111-yard, two-touchdown performance in a narrow first-round win.

He was one of two Gryphons drafted, with offensive lineman Mitchel Schechinger also heading to Calgary later in the draft. With rookie camps opening in early May and the Argos temporarily based in Guelph, Smith will not have to travel far as he takes the next step in his football career, a strong moment for Burlington talent on a national stage.

Students Shine At Book Battle 📚

Students from across Burlington filled the Central Branch of Burlington Public Library for this year’s fast-paced Battle of the Books, a lively trivia-style competition testing reading knowledge and teamwork.

Schools from across the city took part, with strong support from families and coaches adding to the energy inside the downtown space.

John W. Boich Public School won the junior division, while Charles R. Beaudoin Public School took top spot in the senior category after tight final rounds. With top teams now heading to a regional championship in Milton, the competition is only heating up, congratulations to Burlington’s young readers for a strong showing.
