🛼 Pup-Up Roller Rink Coming to Town
A pop-up roller rink is coming to Burlington next month starting February 12th, turning Mapleview mall’s former Decathlon space into a fun, all-ages skating experience.
SUSO Skate Co. began in Toronto in 2021 and has since hosted 100,000+ skaters across 15+ pop-up rinks, transforming underused spaces into a fun time. Bookings are open starting today, with a 50% off for the first 50 people, and 25% off for the next 50.

🌎 Earthquake Hits Burlington
You heard that right.
If your house suddenly rattled late Tuesday night and left you confused, you weren’t imagining it. Natural Resources Canada confirmed a small earthquake, measuring between 1.4 and 1.5 in magnitude that happened at 11:57pm on January 6th. The exact spot of the quake was traced to the corner of South Service Road and Appleby Line.
Thankfully no reports of damage or injuries. Small earthquakes like this are rare in the area, but they can happen and are usually harmless.
🛏️ Waterfront Hotel Moves Forward

Development Rendering. Source: City of Burlington
City council has approved planning changes for a proposed 25-storey hotel and rental building at 2076 Old Lakeshore Rd., but construction can’t begin yet. The project would bring 154 hotel rooms, 50 rental apartments, underground parking, and an extension of the Waterfront Trail to Burlington’s downtown waterfront.
The biggest question is still parking. While downtown hotels currently aren’t required to provide it on-site, city staff want proof the area can handle the added demand. Meanwhile, the Burlington Downtown Business Association is urging the city to change its rules so hotels must meet their own parking needs. Staff say a broader Downtown Parking Plan is already underway, with a report expected this spring.

🛡️ Seniors Take On Fraud Together
A free community talk on fraud prevention is kicking off the 2026 Empowered Seniors Speaker Series on Wednesday, Jan. 14, from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at the Art Gallery of Burlington. The session focuses on how seniors can spot scams, avoid common traps, and protect their finances in an increasingly digital world.
The guest speaker is Dave Oswald, a forensic investigator with more than 25 years of experience. Hosted by Marion Goard, the free monthly series is designed to support older adults and their families with practical advice on finances, health, planning ahead, and more, all in a relaxed, welcoming community setting.
📚 A Sesame Street Surprise for Kids
If you’re looking for something to do with the kids this weekend, a special family storytime is bringing some very familiar faces to town. This Saturday, Elmo, Big Bird, and Oscar the Grouch will be dropping by a children’s storytime event designed around books, play, and fun.
The event includes a reading of Can You Tell Me How to Get to Sesame Street?, a short walk with the characters, games, snacks, and time for photos. It’s hosted as part of Wholesome Storytime, a family-focused program for young children.
