🔥 Ribs, Music, and Community Spirit
Canada’s Largest Ribfest returns to Spencer Smith Park this Friday, Aug. 29 up until Monday, Sept. 1, filling Burlington’s waterfront with smoky ribs, live bands, rides, and family fun. Gates open daily at 11am, drawing thousands eager to sample flavors from 16 rib teams and 20 other food vendors.
Organized by the Rotary Club of Burlington Lakeshore, the event has raised more than $6 million for local charities since 1996. With over 500 volunteers, the long weekend supports hospitals, food banks, and school programs, proving every bite makes a difference.
🏎️ Horsepower for Healthcare
Burlington revs up for the fourth annual Horsepower 4 Hospital on Sunday, Sept. 7, showcasing over 50 exotic cars including Ferraris and McLarens. The parade departs Joseph Brant Hospital at 9:15am, cruising along Lakeshore Road to Paletta Lakefront Park. A community event begins at 10am with vendors, entertainment, and fundraising in support of local healthcare.

🤝 Big Brothers Big Sisters Funding

Big Brothers Big Sisters Halton, Hamilton and Grand Erie received $256,000 in Ontario Trillium Foundation grants to strengthen fundraising and expand volunteer recruitment. The support includes $190,500 from the Resilient Communities Fund and a $66,000 seed grant awarded last fall.
The funding allowed BBBS to hire specialists, a recruitment coordinator, and a case worker, ensuring stronger community outreach. Executive director Michael Treadgold said the investment will help the organization grow sustainably and serve more young people for years to come.
📚 New Chapter for Appleby Branch
The Burlington Public Library’s Appleby branch has closed its longtime location last Friday, Aug. 22, marking the end of an era before reopening inside the Robert Bateman Community Centre on Monday, Sept. 15. While services pause during the move, the new space at 5151 New Street promises a fresh, modern library experience for the community.
