OHL Expansion Team in Burlington? 🏒

Rendering of the proposed development at 1200 King Rd.

Wouldn’t it be cool if we had our own OHL team? Well for the first time ever it might actually be possible.

A Burlington committee has moved forward on a proposed $300-million event centre at 1200 King Road, featuring a 7,000-seat arena that could attract an Ontario Hockey League expansion team to the city.

The project would also include a 50-metre competition pool, a recreational ice facility, a hotel and conference centre, and a parking garage. Property owner Alinea has partnered with Oak View Group, which operates Hamilton's TD Coliseum, and is in talks with the OHL and Canada Basketball.

City staff will report back to council in spring 2027 with a funding strategy before any financial commitment is made. The committee's decision goes to city council for final approval on June 23.

The most important question now is obviously: What would you name Burlington’s OHL Team?

New Waterfront Festival is Close 🎶

The new Lakeshore Music and Arts Festival, a long anticipated replacement for Burlington’s famous Sound of Music Festival, is almost here.

Burlington residents will see the festival take over Spencer Smith Park on Saturday and Sunday June 20-21. The two-day event will feature headliners including The Trews, Katie Tupper, The Dirty Nil, and Burlington's own Walk Off the Earth. More than 30 local and Canadian artists are on the lineup, along with arts programming, local vendors, and family activities. Organizers say the full schedule is dropping soon.

The Burlington Summer Music Parade will also be happening on June 20 at 10 a.m. downtown, featuring the Burlington Teen Tour Band and other local groups.

More Homes Proposed for Millcroft 🏗

Millcroft Greens has applied to the province for permission to build 138 more homes on 25 acres of its Burlington golf course, on top of 90 homes and a 130-unit apartment building already under construction on another part of the property.

The property owner is asking the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing for a Ministerial Zoning Order to override local open space zoning at 2155 Country Club Road.

Burlington isn't on board. The city has repeatedly asked the province to maintain open space zoning on the land and offered $15 million this past March to purchase part of the remaining golf course, but the offer was rejected.

Public comments can be submitted through the Environmental Registry of Ontario until July 5.

Together With BOMBA!

BOMBA Community Steps Up for Burlington Food Bank

BOMBA Baseball players and families once again demonstrated the power of teamwork beyond the diamond during this year’s Photo Day. Players from every level of the organization, from House League to Elite, were invited to bring non-perishable food items in support of the Burlington Food Bank, and the response was remarkable.

Thanks to the generosity of our baseball community, BOMBA collected an incredible 4,820 pounds of food along with $656 in cash donations to help local families in need. The annual initiative continues to be an important reminder that being part of a team means giving back to the community that supports us.

A special recognition goes to the 11U AA Bulls, who led all teams with an outstanding 2,143 pounds of food donated. Their effort accounted for nearly half of the organization’s total collection and exemplified the spirit of leadership, compassion, and community involvement.

Thank you to every player, family, coach, and volunteer who contributed to making this year’s food drive such a tremendous success. Together, we made a meaningful difference.
