🏙️ Council Reviews Highrise Proposals

Burlington city councillors this week considered two major residential projects recommended for approval by planning staff. One proposal calls for a 23-storey tower with 164 units at 2072 Lakeshore Road, featuring a shift toward larger two- and three-bedroom layouts.

The second, at Plains Road East and Glenwood Avenue, outlines a 12-storey building with 253 units and ground floor commercial space. Both projects mark significant steps in shaping growth along the waterfront and in Aldershot.

🚧 Road Resurfacing Plans for Appleby and Burloak

If you often drive along Appleby Line or Burloak Drive, you may want to brace for some delays in the coming years. The Region of Halton has announced that both roads will be getting fresh asphalt, with Burloak scheduled first in 2026 and Appleby following in 2027.

Burloak’s resurfacing will run from Harvester to the QEW on-ramp, while Appleby’s stretch will extend from Taywood to Harrison, crossing the busy Dundas intersection. Neighbours can expect notice letters closer to construction, but for now, it’s simply something to keep on the radar.

🌉 New Tool to Track Skyway Traffic

Good news for anyone who dreads the surprise of lane closures on the Burlington Skyway. The Ontario government has just launched a new website where drivers can check live updates on traffic, weather, and construction schedules before hitting the road.

🐾 Splashes and Smiles at Pooch Plunge

Nelson Pool went to the dogs this past Saturday for Burlington’s annual Pooch Plunge, a joyful fundraiser supporting the Burlington Humane Society. Pups of all sizes bounded into the water chasing toys, treats, and plenty of laughter, with Nelly making the first splash to kick things off for the senior dogs.

Owners cheered from the sidelines as playful canines like Kappy the sheepdog faced the tough choice of too many tennis balls. With vendors on hand and Humane Society staff joining in the fun, the event made for a lively, tail-wagging farewell to summer.

🚴 Burlington’s Elijah Henry Races to the Podium

Burlington’s own Elijah Henry is making waves in the BMX world. Just 12 years old, he placed third at the Canadian National Championships in St. Albert, Alberta, a major milestone for the young rider who has been racing since age six. Elijah trains at the Milton track and has already earned a reputation as Ontario’s undefeated provincial champion three years running.

His parents say his passion is undeniable, and his mom admits the races can be nerve-wracking but so rewarding to watch. Elijah hopes to one day race in the Olympics for Team Canada, and in the meantime, he’ll be competing at the Milton Provincial Finals later this month.
