💻 Working Closer to Home
A new co-working space has opened on International Boulevard, adding another option for Burlington residents who are not fully remote but not eager to commute far either. The seven-storey building includes shared desks, private offices, meeting rooms, and common areas aimed at individuals and small teams looking for a more traditional work setting close to home.
The space is meant to serve freelancers, small businesses, and remote employees who want a professional environment and a sense of routine. They point to changing workplace expectations and the return of some in-office work as reasons more people are looking for local alternatives to both home offices and downtown headquarters.
🚧 $13 Million Road Work Project
A $13.2 million road, sewer, and water main project planned for the Spruce Avenue and Goodram Drive area will be outlined at a public meeting next month, according to the City of Burlington. Construction on roughly two kilometres of roadway is expected to begin this spring, with most work finished by the end of 2026.
Residents can attend the meeting on Feb. 12 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Community Room at Centennial Pool. The project includes road resurfacing, sewer and water main work, sidewalk and curb replacement, and lighting upgrades. Existing traffic-calming features on Spruce Avenue will be put back once construction wraps up.
❄️ The Coldest Night of the Year
Burlington residents are being invited to bundle up and head outside on Feb. 28 for the Coldest Night of the Year, a national walk that raises money for people facing hunger and homelessness. The event will run in two parts of the city, with Open Doors at St. Christopher’s leading the South Burlington walk and Food For Life hosting in North Burlington for a second year.
Registration opens at 4 p.m., followed by a 5 p.m. start time and two- and five-kilometre routes. Organizers are aiming to raise $35,000 this year, with funds supporting local food, housing, and outreach programs that serve Burlington residents throughout the year.

🚒 Honouring a Career of Service
As she gets ready to retire this spring, Burlington Fire Chief Karen Roche is being recognized for the career she built along the way. Roche has been nominated in two categories, Lifetime Achievement and Public Service, for the 2026 YWCA Hamilton Women of Distinction Awards.
Roche began her career with the Burlington Fire Department in 1995 and has spent more than 30 years working in public service, including time in the medical field before returning to lead the department as fire chief. She is scheduled to retire on April 30. The awards will be presented March 5 at the Hamilton Convention Centre.
⏳ QEW & Guelph Line in 1980
This aerial photo from 1980 shows the QEW and Guelph Line surrounded by open fields, low buildings, and lots of space that longtime residents will remember well.
Shared recently on Reddit, it’s a snapshot of Burlington just as growth was starting to take shape. The comments quickly turned nostalgic, with people recalling landmarks like the old Flanigan’s bar and Zoos that once anchored the area.
