🌺 Mrs. Roper Party Returns in Style

Source: burlingtonotoday.com

Burlington’s Mrs. Roper party is back for a second year, bringing caftans, curly red wigs, and a $10,000 fundraising goal to Squires Gastro Pub on Saturday, Oct. 18 from 8pm-1am. Inspired by the flamboyant Helen Roper from the 1970s sitcom Three’s Company, the event invites guests to channel their inner Helen or Stanley with prizes, raffles, and costume contests.

This year’s proceeds will support Dare To Be You(th) and Burlington Helping Burlington. Organizers hope to top last year’s $7,000 total, with live music from The Dirty Pioneers, appetizers included in the $45 ticket price, and a $1,000 grand prize up for grabs in the quirky balloon house game. A win-win for fun and fundraising.

📊 Oakville’s Vital Signs

The Burlington Community Foundation has released its 2025 Vital Signs report, taking a close look at the city’s strengths and challenges. While residents praised parks, waterfront access, and local events, concerns like housing affordability, cost of living, and transportation stood out as areas needing attention.

To help, BCF’s annual Community Granting Program will direct funding toward housing, youth, health, and wellness initiatives. With an overall A- grade for quality of life, the foundation hopes its targeted grants will keep Burlington strong while addressing gaps where residents need more support.

💛 Burlington’s Chance to Support Hospice Care

Carpenter Hospice is in the running for a $5,000 boost through the Hearts for Hospice challenge, and all it takes is a click to help. By liking Burlington’s post on SPACES, residents can push our city up the leaderboard and closer to winning much-needed funds for local hospice care. The contest runs until October 22, so every reaction counts. A simple show of support could make a big difference for families in Burlington facing life’s toughest moments.

🧡 Reconciliation Walk Brings Community Together

Source: burlingtontoday.com

Hundreds gathered at Spencer Smith Park for Burlington’s fifth annual Walk for Reconciliation and Peace, marking Orange Shirt Day with song, ceremony, and stories. Led by Indigenous elder WhiteEagle Stonefish, the walk honoured survivors of residential schools while reminding residents that healing is still ongoing.

Local leaders, including Mayor Marianne Meed Ward and MP Karina Gould, joined in reflection before the group walked to Beachway Park for a tobacco ceremony. Voices of resilience, music, and heartfelt testimony made the evening a powerful reminder of both history and hope.
