🍻 Slye Fox Reopens As Halton Crown

Halton Crown Pub’s new renovated inside, from Pub’s IG

A longtime Burlington pub has a new name and a fresh start. After 26 years as The Slye Fox at 4057 New St., the space has reopened as Halton Crown Pub & Grill under new owner Mani Balasingam, following a month-and-a-half closure for light renovations.

The interior has been opened up with more large-screen TVs, an expanded food and beer menu, and live bands set to return. Most of the familiar serving staff are staying on, helping regulars feel right at home in the updated neighbourhood spot.

🏗️ DC Freeze Plan Put On Hold

After a long and tense meeting, Burlington council has delayed a decision on freezing development charges for two years. These fees, added to the cost of new homes, range from about $8,700 for a one-bedroom to more than $21,000 for a house. Supporters say cutting them could lower prices and spark stalled projects.

The catch is funding. Development charges pay for roads, parks, fire halls, and libraries, and freezing them could cost the city millions. Council signalled it will only move ahead if federal or provincial money covers the shortfall, with a final decision expected in April.

🐱 Pet Spotlight: Meet Lucie!

At just one year and four months old, Lucie is a gentle soul with quiet grace and soft curiosity. In her foster home, she felt safe enough to relax and let her sweet personality shine. She thrives in calm spaces with predictable routines and kind voices that help her feel secure.

Once she trusts you, Lucie forms deep bonds and shows her affectionate, loving nature. The shelter has been overwhelming, and she’s simply waiting for a peaceful home where she can blossom again. She has lived well with other calm cats or would happily be your one and only.

❄️ Coldest Night Draws 164 Walkers

Burlington’s Coldest Night of the Year walk brought the community together Saturday evening at St. Christopher’s Anglican Church. A total of 164 walkers in 22 teams, many sporting the signature blue toques, stepped out along Guelph Line to support Open Doors and its growing demand for food, clothing, and social programs.

The Burlington Teen Tour Band led participants out of the driveway and into the cold night air, with temperatures that matched the event’s name. You can check out photos from the evening in the gallery below.
