🍷 Grocers Say No to Bottle Returns
Starting in 2026, any grocery store that sells beer or wine in Ontario will also have to take back empty bottles. The idea is to make alcohol easier to buy, but many small store owners say it’s just too much. They don’t have the space for piles of dirty bottles, and they don’t like the idea of keeping them near food.
Because of this, some grocers are planning to stop selling alcohol altogether. The Closer Look podcast recently sat down with Gary Sands of the Canadian Federation of Independent Grocers to talk about the issue. It’s a story that could change how we shop for wine and beer in the future. Check out the video above. ⬆️
🌳 BurlingtonGreen Celebrates National Forest Week
National Forest Week is in full swing, and BurlingtonGreen is inviting residents to take part in activities that highlight the beauty and importance of our local trees. Running through Saturday, September 27, the celebration offers something for everyone, whether you enjoy learning, planting, or capturing nature through a camera lens.
This evening, Wednesday, September 24, residents can join an Ask an Arborist webinar to get tips from a tree care expert. Then on Saturday morning, September 27, the community is welcome to gather at Pathfinder Park for a hands-on tree planting workshop. The week also includes a photo contest, open until Saturday, giving everyone a chance to showcase their favourite trees and possibly win a prize.
