🌸 Blooms and Beats at the RBG
The Royal Botanical Gardens is closing out summer in style with two standout events this September, offering visitors a mix of elegance, artistry, and lively entertainment.
From Sept. 12 to 21, the RBG Centre will host the Fleurs de Villes Downton Abbey-themed flower exhibition. Guests can expect stunning floral mannequins dressed in ornate Edwardian-inspired designs, surrounded by carefully curated blooms that capture the elegance of early 20th-century England.
Then, on Thursday, Sept. 25, the Rock Garden will be the setting for So Long Summer, the final RBG After Dark of the season. This adults-only evening runs from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. and features live music by the Dave Murphy Band, scenic garden views, and a festive farewell to warm-weather nights.
☕ Half Sweet Café Brews Up Community
Burlington’s newest café, Half Sweet, opened its doors on June 20, 2025, and is already making a name for itself. Founded by baristas-turned-owners Lin Airejleh and Arianna Cassidy, the women-owned business focuses on quality coffee and creating a welcoming experience for customers.
Serving drinks made with locally roasted beans from Mississauga’s Barocco Coffee Company, the café features classics like lattes and cappuccinos alongside unique offerings such as a Red Velvet Matcha and Chocolate Peanut Butter Espresso. Located inside Alei Kitchen at 1400 Plains Rd. E., Half Sweet plans to introduce a fall menu in September, complete with pumpkin spice and other seasonal favourites.

🌿 Connecting Seniors with Nature

Conservation Halton is expanding its Nature Stewards program, which helps seniors in long-term care and retirement residences reconnect with nature through guided walks, gardening, and interactive workshops. Since launching in 2024, the program has reached over 600 Halton seniors, many of whom have limited access to outdoor spaces.
Thanks to recent provincial funding, the program remains free for participants and runs until March 2026. With only two spots left under current funding, Conservation Halton is actively seeking new retirement community partners.
