🎵 New Waterfront Festival Taking Shape
With Sound of Music now gone, the city is working with MRG Live, an independent concert promoter that runs events in cities like Toronto and Vancouver, to shape a new two-day festival for Spencer Smith Park. More than 3,500 residents shared what they want, including local talent and fair pricing.
The plan is still being refined, but the goal is a focused, affordable event that fits Burlington. Staff say they’ll spend the coming months sorting out details like the parade, volunteer roles, and even the festival’s future name.
🛒 New Stores Settle In on Plains Road
Staples has opened its new location at 1035 Plains Road East, drawing early shoppers to a brighter layout and a more practical setup. The move from Fairview Street gives the retailer better visibility and enough room to group its printing, shipping and copying services, while adding seasonal displays and a few new departments that make the space feel easier to navigate.
Just steps away, a new No Frills has also opened in the plaza. It’s a smaller express-style store at about 11,200 square feet, with its entrance on the west side. The size may be compact, but it brings another everyday option to a stretch of Plains Road that keeps getting more convenient for nearby residents.
👷♀️ Burlington Team Behind Bypass Design
A major fix for GTA gridlock is being shaped right on Harvester Road, where WSP Canada is leading the detailed design for the Bradford Bypass. The project gives Burlington’s engineering community a visible role in solving a long-standing traffic problem and reinforces the city’s reputation as a place where complex infrastructure work gets done.
Although the new highway sits well north of here, its impact will be familiar to anyone driving to cottage country on a summer Friday. By connecting Highways 400 and 404 without forcing drivers through Newmarket and Bradford, the bypass is expected to ease one of Ontario’s worst chokepoints and make those weekend trips smoother.

🐶 Pet Spotlight: Meet Chestnut!
Chestnut is a gentle, affectionate three-year-old who’s really opened up since arriving in care. Once a little shy, she now greets people with an easy warmth and a love for treats, toys and time together.
She does well with other dogs when introduced slowly and thrives with patient guidance as she gets excited in play. With her sweet nature and eager heart, Chestnut is ready to be a loyal, joyful addition to the right home.
💙 Community Grants Reach Local Front Lines
The Burlington Community Foundation just spread $315,000 across 35 local charities, aiming squarely at the rising pressures residents named in this year’s Vital Signs report. Housing, mental health, and the cost of living all featured heavily, and the grants help groups already doing the day-to-day work, from Habitat’s youth trades program to the Distress Centre’s support lines.
What stands out is how these donations, big or small, get stretched into real help for neighbours who need it. With demand growing, BCF is also building a long-term Housing Support Fund to keep support flowing year after year.
