Club 54 Closes This Summer 🪩

Club 54, the Harvester Road nightclub that's been a Burlington fixture for 35 years, is calling last call later this year. Owner Gene Quondamatteo announced earlier this month he's retiring and selling the property, which hit the market for $6.3 million.
Quondamatteo opened the club in 1991 in a gutted Chuck E. Cheese space and turned it into "one of Canada's best-known nightclubs." It also became the production home of Comedy at Club 54, a television series that ran for over 15 years on CHCH and The Comedy Network.
Every Friday and Saturday this summer will feature reunion nights and retro parties before the doors close for good. No final date has been announced yet.
Three Restaurants Hit Nautique Tower 🍽
Three new restaurants are moving into the ground-floor retail space at Nautique Lakefront Residences, the 26-storey condo tower at Martha Street and Lakeshore Road.
Kinton Ramen, Soi Thaifoon, and 6ixty Wings are all targeting openings between September and early 2027. Kinton Ramen is opening a second Burlington location after its Appleby Line spot debuted in 2024. Soi Thaifoon, which has five locations including one in Oakville, will focus on takeout and delivery with limited dine-in seating.
The three tenants fill all the available commercial space in the building. Tariq Adi of Adi Developments says the mix brings solid variety to the downtown.
Healthy Planet Opens Burlington West 🏪
Healthy Planet is opening its 44th Ontario location in Burlington next week, bringing an 11,000-square-foot wellness store to 1510 North Service Road on June 5.
The store will carry organic produce, natural groceries, vitamins, supplements, sports nutrition, and natural beauty products. Company officials say the layout is designed as a one-stop wellness shop, with knowledgeable staff on hand to help customers navigate the selection.
General manager Mohammad Muhamedy called the expansion part of a broader push to make healthy living more accessible across Ontario. The chain, which started as a small kiosk, now runs Canada's largest online health store alongside its retail locations.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony is planned for opening day, along with in-store promotions and product samples from wellness brands.

Library Hosts World Cup Fun ⚽
Burlington Public Library is celebrating the FIFA World Cup throughout June with Soccer Spirit Month, a lineup of free programs for all ages tied to the tournament coming to Canada.
Events include a watch party for Canada's first game on June 12, teen trivia nights, jersey design workshops, and a talk with sports journalist Joshua Kloke about his book on the Canadian men's team. Several programs, including Build a Foosball Table and Find Your Vision, Soccer Style, were filling up quickly as of earlier this week.
Most events don't require registration, but library staff are encouraging fans to sign up soon for the ticketed sessions. Drop-in activities like scavenger hunts and button-making will also run at branches across the city.
Pier Walk Tackles Men's Mental Health 💝
Capillary Wave Community is hosting Peer to Pier, a men's mental health fundraiser and awareness walk, on Sunday, June 7 from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Burlington Pier. The local nonprofit has grown from five members to more than 350 in just 18 months, highlighting the urgent demand for accessible men's mental health support.
The walk will feature more than 20 local charities lining the promenade, creating an interactive path where participants can discover services available across Halton. At the halfway point, walkers will take part in a ceremony honouring men lost to suicide.
Funds raised will support weekly men's mental health groups, outreach initiatives, and programs for men facing isolation and life transitions.
