🧭 Choosing Burlington’s Next Economic Step

Burlington has been taking a close look at what to do with its merged Economic Development and Tourism group, and the discussion feels bigger than a structural shuffle. Council has asked staff for two options by spring 2026: bringing the organization into the city or keeping it independent with a new service agreement.
People around town know this decision touches more than budgets. It shapes how we support local business, welcome visitors, and guide growth. However things settle, it’s giving residents space to think about what kind of Burlington we want to build together.
💼 Council Set to Dive Into 2026 Budget
Burlington’s gearing up for its first deep look at the proposed 2026 budget, with council starting its review on Nov. 24. Residents can still sign up to speak, and the full document is online for anyone who wants to see where investments are being planned and how the proposed 4.46% property tax increase breaks down on a household level.
There’s a lot in the mix this year, from road repairs and stormwater work to new hybrid buses and updated fire equipment. It’s the kind of budget that shows how day-to-day services get shaped, and locals who tune in will get a clear sense of the tradeoffs ahead before council finalizes things in early December.
🎄 Local Christmas Market Nearing Its Final Days
Sew On Fire Ministry is bringing back its Christmas Market for two more Saturdays, Nov. 22 and 29, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. It’s a small, friendly event tucked into their Fraser Drive space, with handmade quilts, winter toques, wreaths, baked goods, vintage pieces and a mix of simple holiday gifts.
All of the proceeds support the ministry’s work as it marks 25 years of helping others. If you’re looking for something heartfelt and local, it’s a nice way to spend part of a Saturday.

🎶 Burlington Ensemble Lifts Women’s Voices

Source: burlingtontoday.com
Myriad Ensemble has grown from a casual summer singing group into a 75-member upper-voice choir that’s now known across Canada for its immersive style. Led by Burlington’s Elise Naccarato, the group has weathered big challenges, including starting out just before the pandemic, and has since earned international recognition for its adventurous approach.
They often perform in unexpected spaces and collaborate with artists of all kinds, all while championing work by female and Canadian composers. With shows coming up Nov. 30 and Dec. 6 and 7, it’s a great moment for locals to experience how Myriad brings community, creativity, and courage together in one shared sound.
🧵 Halton Embroidery Workshop Wins Culture Days Award
Burlington played a role in a regional win this year as “Threads of Tradition,” a Phulkari embroidery workshop led by artist Rafia Shafiq, earned the Best Collaborative Program award from Ontario Culture Days. The project brought together the four Halton municipalities and local heritage partners to offer a hands-on look at this traditional craft.
Participants stitched simple designs and learned the story behind the art, showing how creative projects can bring communities together in an easy, meaningful way.
