Civic Square Renewal Begins 🏗️

Rendering of the new Civic Square | City of Burlington
The City of Burlington is moving ahead with a major refresh of Civic Square, the front entrance of City Hall, and nearby sections of Brant and Elgin streets.
Construction is scheduled from spring 2026 through late 2026, with work continuing into April 2027, aiming to modernize a key downtown gathering space.
The project builds on community input gathered in 2024, when residents helped select a final design focused on walkability, green space, and a stronger setting for events and local culture.
Expect a more accessible and active public square once complete, right at the heart of downtown.
Election Website Now Live 🗳️
The City of Burlington has launched myvoteburlington.ca, a new hub for everything related to the 2026 municipal election.
Voting will run from Oct. 14-26, with options to cast a ballot online, at advance polls, or in person on election day.
The site outlines how to get on the voters list, run for office, or apply for election jobs, while also breaking down what is on the ballot, including mayor, council, regional chair, and school board trustees. With key local decisions on the line, this is the place to get organized before October.
Argo Transit Pitch Advances 🚌
An Ontario startup is making a push to bring on-demand transit to Burlington, as council looks for ways to ease congestion and boost ridership.
Argo, founded by tech executive Praveen Arichandran, offers app-based electric buses that pick riders up near home and connect them to transit hubs, all for the price of a regular bus fare.
The service aims to solve the “first and last mile” gap, a known hurdle for local commuters heading to GO stations. Early pilots in Brampton and Bradford saw ridership jump quickly, and Burlington staff are now being asked to explore a potential two-year pilot. If it moves ahead, your next bus ride might start right at your doorstep.

Theatre Burlington is getting well-deserved recognition after its production of Mary’s Wedding received seven out-of-festival nominations from the Western Ontario Drama League. The show is up for outstanding Canadian production, with director Moe Dwyer also recognized.
The nominations also highlight strong work behind the scenes, including costumes, lighting, set, and sound design.
Winners will be announced at the WODL festival in May, capping off a standout run for the local cast and crew, congratulations to everyone involved.
New Exhibit At The Museum 🍽️
A new travelling exhibit at Joseph Brant Museum is exploring how food connects culture, memory, and community.
Eat, Make, Share, created by the Canadian Museum of Immigration, opened with a lively event featuring dishes from around the world and stories of how recipes evolve through immigration.
The gallery blends personal stories with artifacts, from historic kitchen tools to familiar Canadian foods, showing how meals reflect identity and change over time. The exhibit runs until Sept. 5 before heading east, offering a chance to see how something as simple as a shared meal can tell a much bigger story.
