Together with Back to Basics Swim Academy
Not All Swim Lessons Are Created Equal
Most swim schools focus on keeping kids busy.
We focus on building confidence that lasts.
At Back to Basics Swim Academy, Burlington families choose us for one reason:
we teach swimming the right way — calm, structured, and without chaos.
That means:
Small classes where kids aren’t rushed or overlooked
Patient, certified instructors who teach fundamentals first
Real progress you can see — not just splashing and smiles
Whether your child is new to the water or needs a more thoughtful learning environment, Back to Basics meets swimmers where they are and helps them move forward, one solid lesson at a time.
This is why families don’t just enroll with us — they stay.

🍔 A&W And Gas Bar Planned
A new A&W restaurant could soon be coming to Burlington’s Fairview Street area. The city recently approved a proposal that allows a one storey building with a drive in fast food restaurant, convenience store, outdoor patio, and gas bar.
The project is planned for 1216 Fairview St. at the Maple Mews plaza beside Mapleview Centre, where a gas station previously operated before closing several years ago. The property owner applied for permission to move forward with the redevelopment, though there is still no timeline for construction.
🌆 Burlington Maps Out Future
Burlington has approved a new long term vision that will help guide how the city grows over the next 25 years. The strategy, called Horizon 2050, updates the city’s previous Vision 2040 plan and sets broad priorities for planning, budgeting, services, and development as the community continues to expand.
The plan focuses on what the city calls “purposeful growth,” balancing new housing and economic development with protecting natural spaces and strengthening community connections. City leaders say the framework will shape future decisions on land use, sustainability, and infrastructure as Burlington prepares for decades of change.
🏠 Supportive Housing Proposal
Burlington council has supported a plan that could bring a new supportive housing building to Aldershot. The proposal would see 74 affordable rental units built at 1022, 1028, and 1030 Waterdown Rd. by Indwell, a Canadian non profit that develops housing for people facing financial hardship, health challenges, or housing instability.
Supportive housing combines below market rent with on site services such as social workers, wellness programs, and other supports to help residents stay stable and avoid homelessness. The city plans to purchase the land and lease it to Indwell for up to 55 years, using federal Housing Accelerator Fund money. Indwell would then apply for federal funding to construct and operate the building.

🏒 Community Game Honours Ben Felicetti
Burlington’s hockey community will come together April 3 at Wave Twin Rinks for Ben’s Blades for Change, a charity game held in memory of Burlington native and former OHL draft pick Ben Felicetti. Ben passed away in November at age 22, and the event is being organized by family and friends on what would have been his 23rd birthday.
Teammates, friends, and community members are expected to fill the rink to celebrate his life and the kindness he was known for. Tickets are $10 at the door, with proceeds and raffle funds supporting Joseph Brant Hospital. A meaningful night to remember someone who meant a lot to many.
🏅 Burlington Sports Hall of Fame
The Burlington Sports Hall of Fame has revealed its 2026 induction class, celebrating a diverse group of local athletes and builders whose careers span football, combat sports, and Olympic paddling. The class highlights how Burlington talent has reached the highest levels of sport, from professional leagues to world championships and the Olympic stage.
One of the most unique honours this year recognizes a three generation local family connected to Olympic canoe and kayak competition. The group will officially be inducted during a ceremony at Burlington Golf and Country Club on May 26, continuing a tradition that celebrates the city’s deep roots in sport and community leadership.
