Together with Back to Basics Swim Academy
Not All Swim Lessons Are Created Equal
Most swim schools focus on keeping kids busy.
We focus on building confidence that lasts.
At Back to Basics Swim Academy, Burlington families choose us for one reason:
we teach swimming the right way — calm, structured, and without chaos.
That means:
Small classes where kids aren’t rushed or overlooked
Patient, certified instructors who teach fundamentals first
Real progress you can see — not just splashing and smiles
Whether your child is new to the water or needs a more thoughtful learning environment, Back to Basics meets swimmers where they are and helps them move forward, one solid lesson at a time.
This is why families don’t just enroll with us — they stay.

🔑 Burlington’s Key to the City
The City of Burlington is asking residents to help shine a light on people who make our community better. Nominations are now open for the 2026 Key to the City award, recognizing individuals or groups who have made a meaningful impact on life here at home. The nomination page is open until March 24, giving neighbours a few weeks to put forward someone deserving.
Recipients will be celebrated at a ceremony on April 15, with names shared in advance by Mayor Marianne Meed Ward. Last year’s honourees included volunteer Beverley Jacobs and musicians Sarah Harmer and Chris McKhool. It is a thoughtful way to pause and say thank you to those who give so much to Burlington.
⚖️ Millcroft Case Paused Again
The legal dispute between the City of Burlington and Argo Development is stretching a little longer. The court case, tied to the removal of more than 400 trees at Millcroft last spring, has been postponed again and is now scheduled for April 29. According to Millcroft Against Development, Argo requested more time to review the case before moving ahead.
For neighbours who’ve been following this closely, it’s another wait in a story that has stirred strong feelings about growth and green space. The outcome could shape how Burlington handles private tree protections moving forward, and many residents will be watching carefully when the case returns to court this spring.
🎨 Student Art Contest for Crossing Guards
Ontario students have a sweet way to say thanks this year. The Ontario Traffic Council is inviting kids aged 4 to 14 to submit original artwork celebrating school crossing guards. Winning drawings will be featured on thank you cards shared during School Crossing Guard Appreciation Week from June 1 to 5. Submissions are open until March 31, and winners will be announced on April 13.
It is a simple idea, but a meaningful one. Crossing guards show up in all kinds of weather to help our kids get to school safely. For Burlington families, this could be a nice weekend project with crayons, markers, and a little gratitude going a long way in brightening someone’s day.

🎾 Victoria Mboko Breaks Into Top Ten
Burlington’s Victoria Mboko is reaching new heights. At just 19, she is set to crack the top 10 in the Women’s Tennis Association singles rankings when they update Monday. The milestone comes as she heads into the Qatar Open final after a commanding semifinal win over Jelena Ostapenko, 6-3, 6-2.
Mboko is now only the fourth Canadian woman to reach the world’s top 10, joining Bianca Andreescu, Carling Bassett Seguso, and Eugenie Bouchard. For a young athlete who lifted the Canadian Open trophy last year, it feels like the next chapter in a remarkable climb.
❄️ Ice Takes Over the Waterfront
Spencer Smith Park looks a little bit different lately after weeks of crazy cold weather. The shoreline has taken on a striking, almost sculpted look, with swans moving through the frozen edges. Take a look through the gallery to see how dramatically the waterfront has changed.
