Together with Back to Basics Swim Academy
June is closer than you think. Most swimmers aren’t ready.
Strong swimmers don’t get ready in summer. They arrive ready.
By the time June arrives, most lesson schedules are already set. More importantly, most progress is already decided. The difference isn’t more time later. It’s starting earlier with the right instruction.
At Back to Basics, swimmers don’t sit in large groups or cycle through instructors. They improve through consistency, correction, and focused attention every lesson.
Max 3:1 ratio (often 1:1 or 2:1)
Same instructor every lesson
Quiet, focused pool environment
Kids and adult lessons
No forced session blocks
Progress tracked and measurable
The gap between swimmers is already forming. Those who start now build confidence before summer. Those who wait adjust to what’s left.
Secure your spot while schedules are still flexible.

Burlington Sets Early April Heat Record ☀️
Burlington led the way as a Good Friday warm spell shattered temperature records across southern Ontario, with the city hitting a striking 25.8 C on April 3.
Environment Canada says that easily beat the long-standing local record of 23.5 C set back in 1981, making it one of the hottest areas in the province that day. Toronto also saw records fall, but Burlington’s high stood out as the peak of the surge.
The summer-like weather brought plenty of residents outdoors along the waterfront and local trails, offering a rare early taste of heat before spring has fully settled in.
The shift did not last long though, with cooler than normal temperatures returning early this week, so those patio plans may need to wait a little longer.
Burlington Courts Open For Season 🎾
Outdoor tennis and pickleball courts across Burlington are officially open as of April 2, kicking off the 2026 season a little earlier than usual thanks to the recent stretch of warm weather.
The City confirmed all public courts are ready for play, giving residents a head start on spring recreation after a brief taste of summer-like temperatures last week.
Players can now head to courts at parks across the city, including:
Bolus Gardens Parkette
Brant Hills Park
Ireland Park
Leighland Park
Millcroft Park
Optimist Park
Palmer Park
Sycamore Park
Tansley Woods Park
Consultants for Rec Space 🏒
Burlington is bringing in a consultant to review how recreation spaces are shared, as demand for ice, pools, and gyms continues to outgrow supply.
The $50,000 review aims to modernize outdated policies and ease pressure on prime-time access, which has become increasingly competitive as the city grows. Recent disputes over pool time highlighted the need for a clearer, fairer system.
Local sports leaders say policy tweaks alone will not solve the issue. Hockey and aquatic groups are calling for new multi-use facilities, possibly funded in part through user fees, pointing to past expansions like Appleby Ice Centre as a model.
With upcoming arena closures set to tighten availability even further, the question now is how quickly the city can turn planning into actual space.

🐾 Pet Spotlight: Meet Sugar!
Sugar is a sweet and gentle girl with a heart full of love. At just 1 year and 8 months old, she came to the Humane Society with her three babies and proved to be an incredibly devoted mom, always snuggled up close and especially bonded with her daughter.
Now that her kittens are growing, it’s Sugar’s turn to find a loving home of her own. She would thrive in a quiet, calm environment where she can feel safe and loved.
If you’re looking for a gentle companion, visit Burlington Humane Society to meet Sugar and give her the second chance she deserves. Apply today and help her start her next chapter filled with love and comfort.
Hurry Hard Comedy 🎭
Burlington audiences can expect plenty of laughs when Theatre Burlington brings Hurry Hard to the stage starting April 17.
The Canadian comedy dives into the drama of a small-town curling team chasing bonspiel glory, mixing rivalry, ego, and sharp one-liners into a story that lands whether you’ve ever picked up a broom or not. Director Jerrold Karch leans into that familiar small-town energy, where every matchup feels personal.
The show is rooted right here in Burlington, with the Burlington Curling Club lending props and even hosting the cast on the ice to get the details right. With performances running to May 2 and early buzz filling seats, this one is shaping up to be a fun, easy night out close to home.
