⚽ Burlington’s Potential World Cup Fan Zone

The city of Burlington is considering hosting a small World Cup fan zone at Spencer Smith Park next summer. Council agreed to set aside some funding so we could take part in FIFA Canada’s Caravan, it would be a designated area with a large outdoor screen showing a match, a few activities for kids, and some live music while the tournament is underway.

Burlington is currently the only place in Halton or Hamilton to put in a bid, so it could bring a bit of extra foot traffic downtown. Nothing is final yet and the details are still pretty early-stage, but this is shaping up to become a summer activity to look forward to.

🛒 Wyecroft Costco Begins Construction

Instagram post

Crews have been knocking down the old shops on Wyecroft this week, clearing the way for the new Costco that’s been talked about forever. The store will sit right by Burloak and the QEW, with a whole new building instead of the earlier plan to retrofit the plaza. It is currently aiming for a 2027 opening, so shoppers will have to be patient for now.

The plan includes over 15,000 square meters of shopping space, a gas bar, and more than 1,000 parking spots, including a chunk of them underground. Even cyclists get dedicated parking.

Here is to hoping this will make the Brant St. Costco a bit less of a war zone. 🥂😅

🎿 Glen Eden Gears Up for an Early Start

Glen Eden is kicking off its ski season earlier than usual again, thanks to a solid stretch of cold weather and a good dump of snow. Staff announced They have officially opened the hills starting today, which makes this the earliest start in about a decade.

Who’s excited for the first Ski of the season?

📚 BPL Hopes to Grow Kids’ Spaces with Community Help

Burlington Public Library has kicked off its Kids Learning Fund campaign, hoping to add more children’s books and refresh play areas across all branches. These extras aren’t covered by regular operating budgets, so donations help stock shelves, support early-learning programs, and keep youth spaces welcoming.

Even small gifts go far, $30 adds a handful of new books, and $100 covers supplies for a STEAM or literacy session. With millions of yearly visits and more hands-on tools planned, the library is inviting residents to chip in however they can this season.

🪵 Students Build Toys for Kids in Need

Corpus Christi’s Toyshop project is back, with students spending their after-school time crafting wooden trains, planes, and rocking horses for local families. What began as teacher Rick Karniej’s small idea in the ’90s has grown into a full community effort that teaches real skills and brings students together.

Families and volunteers helped assemble everything this weekend before the toys headed to St. Matthew’s House. It’s a simple tradition, but one that leaves a big mark on everyone involved.
