Together With Blue Zone Courts

Outdoor season is in full swing at Blue Zone Courts. ☀️
The place has been buzzing with players enjoying pickleball and padel across all levels. What we offer is more than just court time, it’s a built-in community, with drop-ins and programs that make it easy to jump in and play.
Pickleball: Daily drop-ins, leagues, ladders, and $2 play (limited-time)
Padel: Round robins, quedadas, leagues, and express tournaments
And if you find yourself getting out to the courts multiple times a week this summer, the Summer Membership is packed with value and worth considering.
Not interested in programs? Just play outdoors at 50% of indoor court fees.

Burlington Centre Expansion Plans 🏬

Big changes are underway at Burlington Centre, with new stores, expansions, and a restaurant planned over the next few years.
Wildcraft Grill + Long Bar is opening a second location with a patio conversion, while Structube plans a large showroom opening in 2027. Winners will also expand, and Old Navy is relocating within the mall this spring.
Recent additions like Boathouse and Warehouse One have already started reshaping the mix, and more changes are on the way as the centre evolves alongside Burlington’s growth.
A New Waterfront Walkway 🌊
A new pedestrian connection to Burlington’s waterfront is moving ahead through a partnership between the city and St. Luke’s Anglican Church.
The plan will convert a parking lot entrance off Elgin Street into a 175-metre public walkway leading to Lakeshore Road, with seating and gathering areas along the route. Most of the land belongs to the 192-year-old church, which is contributing $422,000 toward the $672,000 project.
The city will fund the remaining costs and take on long-term maintenance, estimated at up to $30,000 annually. Construction could be completed by summer 2027, improving access to Spencer Smith Park and the waterfront core.
Burlington Launches Next-Gen 911 📞
The Burlington Fire Department has officially transitioned to the Next Generation 911 system, bringing a major tech upgrade to local emergency response.
While residents will still dial 911 the same way, the new network supports modern digital tools and stronger system reliability, backed by nearly $3 million in provincial funding.
Over time, the system is expected to allow features like real-time text, video sharing, and improved data for first responders. Fire Chief Drew Boys says the upgrade strengthens response capabilities without disrupting service during the transition.

Bateman Centre Grand Opening 🎉

city of Burlington Image
Burlington residents are invited to celebrate the Phase 1 opening of the Robert Bateman Community Centre on May 2 from 1-4pm.
The newly repurposed space at 5151 New Street brings together recreation, education, and community services under one roof, with partners like Burlington Public Library, Brock University, and TechPlace offering interactive activities and tours.
The afternoon includes a ribbon cutting, games, crafts, fitness challenges, and a free swim at Centennial Pool from 1:30-3pm. Built from the former Bateman High School, the centre is now the city’s largest community hub, with more expansions planned in Phase 2.
Burlington On A Lucky Streak 🎰
Burlington might want to start calling itself Ontario’s luckiest city, at least for now.
Two local residents have scored big lottery wins in recent weeks, including Douglas W., who took home over $91,000 playing Poker Lotto after checking his ticket at a gas station. He kept it quiet at first, only telling his wife later, who did not believe it until he proved it.
Another Burlington resident, Philip T., won $77,777 on an instant ticket after decades of playing. Between home renos, a possible new boat, and some smart investing, the winnings are already spoken for.
