🌱 Gardeners of Burlington

Local garden lovers are in for a treat next week as the Gardeners of Burlington welcome guest speaker Ryan Viera for a hands-on talk about worms and composting. Viera, a worm farmer from Trent Lakes, will share how vermicomposting can boost soil health, create natural fertilizers and reduce household waste.

The event takes place Wednesday, Oct. 8, at the Central Arena auditorium on Drury Lane. It’s a great chance to learn, swap tips and get inspired for next year’s growing season.

💧 Kids Dive Into Learning at Water Festival

More than 4,000 students joined the Halton Children’s Water Festival at Kelso Conservation Area this year, making it the biggest one yet. The event gave kids a fun, hands-on way to learn how water supports our communities and the environment.

New this year were activities about climate change, including how to prevent flooding and protect local wildlife. Organizers say the festival helps kids see how small actions can make a big difference.

🚗 Burlington Food Bank Needs Drivers

With demand rising across the city, Burlington Food Bank is urgently seeking volunteer delivery drivers. If you have a reliable car and time, you can help local neighbours get groceries, especially older adults and families.

Shifts are flexible, daytime or evening, and routes are close to home. The role is simple, pick up donations and bring them to those who need them. It is a small commitment with real impact.

🍳 Burlington’s Sung Kang Cooks Up His Dream

Burlington home chef Sung Kang is stepping into the spotlight on MasterChef Canada, competing for the title and a $100,000 prize. Born in Seoul and raised in Halton, Kang says his cooking is about more than competition. It’s about culture, connection and sharing Korean flavours with Canadians.

Encouraged by his wife, Kang joined the show to celebrate his roots and introduce more people to Korean cuisine. He hopes success will help him relaunch his own Korean chili sauce brand, bringing authentic yet approachable flavours to local kitchens.

🎁 Gift of Giving Back Marks 20 Years

The Gift of Giving Back is celebrating two decades of generosity with a major boost from 100+ Women Who Care Burlington. After a close vote, the charity won more than $10,000 in donations during the group’s recent virtual meeting, impressing members with its mission to inspire and empower local youth through giving.

Founded by Jean Longfield, the organization has helped raise millions in food and funds for Halton charities. This year’s support will help fund reusable collection bags and youth initiatives, continuing the tradition of “kids feeding kids” that has shaped Burlington’s spirit of compassion.
