Burlington Latin Festival Returns 💃
The Burlington Latin Festival is officially coming back to Central Park this summer on August 22 and 23, and it’s shaping up to be a busy weekend.
The event is all about celebrating Latin American culture, with live music, dancing, food, and local vendors set up throughout the park. Organizers say this year’s festival will be even bigger than last year.
In 2025, more than 70 vendors took part, along with a full lineup of performers across the weekend. Admission is free, and if you’re a vendor, performer, or artist, applications are already open.
This Youtube video shows a glimpse of what to expect:
Road Work Ahead 🚧
If it feels like construction season never really ends, this won’t help.
Burlington is planning a major stretch of roadwork in both Ward 1 and Ward 2 over the next several years, with about $33 million in Ward 1 and $35 million in Ward 2 projects lined up.
In Ward 2, most of the work is focused downtown. Think resurfacing roads, fixing sidewalks, upgrading drainage, and moving hydro lines underground on streets like Lakeshore, Brant-area roads, and Plains.
Ward 1 is a mix of rural and growing areas, with projects like Snake Road starting soon and bigger upgrades coming to Plains Road West and King Road.

Free Trees For Earth Day 🌱
Burlington is celebrating Earth Day by giving away free trees and shrubs!
You can register online and pick a plant to take home and add to your yard. The giveaway runs April 21 and 22, with different options available each day, including trees like white pine and redbud, plus shrubs like witch hazel and ninebark.
Everything comes in a pot and is ready to plant on private property. Staff will also be there to help load them into your car.

Big Turnout For Olympians 🏒
The Appleby Ice Centre was packed this weekend as more than 1,000 people showed up to skate and meet Burlington’s own Renata Fast and Emma Maltais.
Fans lined up for hours, with the crowd stretching through the arena and even out into the parking lot. The turnout was so big, staff had to open a second rink to keep things moving.
The two Olympians took time to skate, sign autographs, and chat with fans. For many, especially younger players, it was a chance to meet athletes they look up to.
Some even travelled from out of town just to be there. Safe to say, the support for women’s hockey showed up in a big way.

Bookmark Winners Are In 📚

The five winning bookmark designs, from youngest to oldest age group
The results are in for this year’s library bookmark contest, and there’s a nice mix of creativity across all age groups.
More than 500 entries were submitted, with over 3,000 votes cast to decide the winners. Each design was inspired by a favourite book, which made for a pretty fun range of ideas.
If you want to see them up close, the winning bookmarks are now available at local library branches while supplies last.
Congrats to all the talented winners!
