Burlington Parents: Your Child’s Swim Skills Are About to Disappear
Winter kills progress. Kids forget. Confidence fades. And when summer hits? Panic.
That’s why Burlington families are locking in winter swim spots at Back to Basics Swim Academy, before they’re gone.
We’re not a chain. We’re local. Small classes. Certified instructors. Warm pools. And lessons that actually work.
Whether your child’s terrified of water or needs to keep leveling up, this is where confidence grows, not resets.
Here’s the deal:
Free trial lesson — no risk, just results
Tiny class sizes — actual attention, real progress
Limited winter spots — filling fast, don’t wait
Water safety isn’t seasonal. Your kid deserves more than splashy chaos.
Spots are going. Fast.
Don’t just take our word for it.

↕️ Burlington in the Upside Down
In case you haven’t heard, the show Stranger Things is very, very popular right now.
The season finale was just released last Wednesday on New Year’s Eve, so in the spirit of wrapping up the beloved show, we wanted to see what Oakville would look like if it was in the upside down…
Check it out.

📱 Viral Burlington Foods
If you follow Ontario food content, you’ve likely come across Joseph DeBenedicts, one of the province’s most popular food creators with hundreds of thousands of followers across Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook. He recently released his Top 5 Meals in Ontario for 2025, and Burlington landed two spots on the list.
Both Dunky's Beach Shack and El Inka were named among his top picks. Dunky’s is tucked right on the Burlington beach and is easy to miss unless you know it’s there, serving classic shack-style comfort food with Joseph calling their smash burger the clear standout. El Inka brings bold Peruvian flavours to the list, with rich, well-executed dishes that clearly left a strong impression.
Oakville also got a shoutout, with The Chicken Cartel earning a spot thanks to its hype-worthy chicken sandwiches and rotating limited-edition drops.
🌤️ A Look at Burlington’s Year Ahead
There’s a lot on the local radar as 2026 gets underway. Development, housing, traffic, and taxes are all back in the conversation, alongside plans for a new waterfront music festival at Spencer Smith Park and decisions about the future of shared e-scooters on city trails.
Residents will also see movement on long-planned park upgrades, including work starting at Sherwood Forest Park, and an election season that will quietly build through the year. It’s shaping up to be a steady mix of everyday issues and visible changes around the city.

📚 Reading More, Made Simple
Burlington Public Library is kicking off 2026 with a twelve-month Reading Challenge designed to make reading feel doable, not daunting. The program pairs monthly themes with staff-curated recommendations, giving readers an easy place to start and a gentle nudge to keep going.
Library CEO Lita Barrie is sharing her own reading picks as inspiration, and participants can jump in at any point during the year. It’s a flexible, low-pressure way to discover new books and make reading part of everyday life again.
🌅 First Day of the Year, for 8 Years
A Burlington photographer on Reddit just dropped Year 8 of a personal tradition: capturing the first sunrise of the year from the exact same spot, every January 1st. The side-by-side shots show how wildly different each New Year can feel, from fiery orange skies to calm, icy mornings, all framed by the familiar pier.
